Question:
I have a 2001 scamp fifth wheel. The power converter is no longer functioning and I need to replace it. I seen an article very similar to my situation on your website by Mike L responding as an expert. He is recommending a PD4045KA converter. The current converter that scamp is now using in their trailers is a PD9345V. The current unit that I need to replace is an American Enterprise CS-2000 XL. The unit Scamp recommends would require a complete new installation. I would like to know what would be best for me of these choices. Also portions of my camper offer 110 plug in unit areas and the rest of it is 12 volts I’m not sure how it all functions and I would like some guidance from someone who does

To replace your converter you have two options:
Option 1: Completely replace the converter and AC/DC distribution panel. You could use a power center like the # PD4045KA or a larger one if you'd like a higher amperage converter and more AC circuit breaker slots/DC fuse ports. This would require rewiring everything to this new panel so you may want to get a local electrician if you don't feel comfortable with handling the wiring.
Option 2: Check which breaker is powering the converter and disconnect the wires of the converter from that circuit breaker. From there you'll need to run a new outlet on its own circuit breaker to wherever you plan on installing the converter. The Progressive Dynamics # PD69RR you were looking at is rated for 45 amps and works with lead acid and lithium batteries so it would be a great replacement option if you go this route. This can also be done by a local electrician if you don't feel comfortable running a new outlet and wires from the converter over to the battery.
The 110v and 12v outlets you have in your trailer all run to their respective distribution panels for power. A circuit breaker in the AC distribution panel powers the 110v outlets and a fuse in the DC distribution panel powers the 12v outlets. The circuit breakers and fuses should hopefully be properly labeled so you know which to turn off or check as needed.
