Features to know about

Reliable Charging Where Older RV Converters Fall Short

Closed unit

Many RV owners upgrade their power center because the factory converter never charged batteries the way it should. Slow recovery times and batteries that never quite reach full are common signs. The WFCO Power Center is designed to fix that by using charging profiles matched to your battery type. Lead-acid batteries receive true 3-stage charging with higher voltage during bulk charging, then step down to normal, and trickle/float stages as they recover. Lithium batteries follow a simpler two-stage process designed for faster, more consistent charging. The result is quicker recharge times and less day-to-day strain on your batteries, helping them last longer and perform more reliably.

Does This Power Center Automatically Detect Lithium Batteries?

Upgrading to lithium batteries is usually about better performance and long-term value, not extra complexity. This power center uses WFCO's Auto-Detect technology to recognize lithium or lead-acid batteries and apply the correct charging profile automatically. There are no switches to set and no settings to guess at. Once installed, it charges your batteries the way they are designed to be charged, helping you get the faster recovery, longer service life, and consistent performance that make lithium a worthwhile upgrade for your RV.

One Tidy AC/DC Power Center for Your RV

Open door

Instead of juggling separate components, the WFCO Power Center combines your AC breaker panel, DC fuse block, and converter into one compact unit. This helps keep wiring organized and reduces clutter in tight RV compartments. With six AC circuits and six DC circuits, it provides capacity for everyday RV essentials like outlets, lighting, appliances, and onboard electronics. The power center accepts standard residential breakers and automotive fuses (not included). You can check the product manual for recommended brands and styles, which are easy to find and purchase from most hardware or RV stores.

What Safety Protections Does This RV Power Center Have?

Electrical upgrades only bring peace of mind if they operate safely day after day. This power center is built with protections against overheating, over-current conditions, and reverse polarity connections, so a wiring mistake or heavy load doesn't turn into a bigger problem. LED indicator lights provide quick visual feedback to help identify power and fault conditions, making it easier to spot issues during troubleshooting. The cooling fan is designed to pull air in and exhaust it out the front of the unit, which helps move heat away from the components instead of letting it build up behind the panel. That matters in tight RV compartments where airflow is limited. If operating limits are ever exceeded, the system can shut itself down to protect the electronics. It's built-in safety that's reassuring when you're upgrading battery types or replacing an older converter that didn't manage heat nearly as well.

Is This a Direct Replacement for My RV Power Center?

Rear with wires

This WF-8735-AD is designed to replace many factory-installed WFCO 35-amp power centers, which is why it fits so well in common RV power center locations. It can also be used as a replacement for other brands with similar layouts and capacity. Because every RV is a little different, it's still important to verify cutout dimensions and wiring before installing. Some applications may require minor adjustments depending on the original layout. If you'd rather leave the job to a professional you can use etrailer's installer locator to find a qualified shop near you and get help with installation.

The unit is good. Replacing the same size just gaining the lithium autodetect feature. WFCO gets 5 stars.
The low rating is because it took a week to arrive from etrailer. Despite paying for and requesting UPS shipping, somehow it was sent USPS which likes to send packages on tours of the country. So if you really need it rapidly like their estimated arrival time states, there is no way to know if it will arrive even close to that time even if you select and pay for the premium method.

Delivery driver was awesome your product was just what I needed for a hunting trip next month and as you can tell I'm putting it in right now

Great service and communication as always with etrailer. Super fast shipping and this part solved my issue with my 12-volt battery not charging while plugged into shore power and my lights going dim /flickering and water pump running slow.

This is a great unit! I bought this WF86FR to replace replace my old WFCO system in my 2010 Nomad Trailer. My old system still worked (which says a lot about WFCO quality), but I am replacing the old system so I can convert to Lithium batteries. This WF86FR auto detects Lithium batteries for the correct charging profile, which is really nice! The new unit was a perfect fit, same dimensions as the old unit. By comparison, the new unit appears to have the same quality as the old one. In addition, the wiring schematic was very easy to follow. I had over 30 wires from my trailer and was able to complete re-wiring and system checks in less than an hour. I waited to post this review until I could run the unit for 2 weeks first. No Issues! Everything works great! Also, I really like e-trailer (unlike Amazon, if you have a problem there is someone you can call!) e-trailer posts all the information you need and are very helpful. I have previously utilized e-trailer for some of my commercial trailer projects and have been very happy.

Unit came in a ripped open OEM box and it had clearly been used, as the wire pretrimmed ends were missing and all had been twisted. I have had good luck with etrailer in the past but didnt expect them to be reshipping a returned product and not shipped in a separate box to hide the contents. I needed this unit to get on the road so I installed and hope it all works.

It doesn't auto detect our lithium battery or charge it. It stays in lead acid mode.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue, Barry. There are a few things to check/troubleshoot to see if we can track down what's going on. The converter may not switch to lithium mode if the battery is already near full charge. Try discharging the battery slightly, then reconnect shore power and monitor charging voltage. Make sure all battery connections are clean, tight, and correctly connected. Loose or corroded connections can prevent the converter from properly detecting the lithium battery. Let me know if any of those things help or if you've done any other additional troubleshooting.

The battery was not fully charged. It was under 50 %. I searched solutions, read about work arounds, and watched videos how others fixed the problem. I tried your suggestions. What I learned is this is a common problem for WFCO. I regret buying this unit. Please stock quality items that work.

I am trying to upgrade my trailer to a LiFePO4 battery. It has been very discouraging. I went online to purchase WFCO converter and purchased the lowest cost one listed. Turns out it is a counterfeit and will not charge a Lithium battery. It looks like I'm not going to recover my money. So I purchased a second WFCO unit from eTrailer but I'm having trouble getting it to auto-detect my lithium battery. I'm not having a good experience.

I am very sorry to hear that you got a counterfeit somewhere else, I can promise you that we get all of our products from our manufacturers directly, and work very close with them. The WF-8735-AD is designed to automatically detect LiFePO4 batteries, but it can take some time and the battery may need to be discharged before it switches into lithium mode. If it's still not detecting your battery, let us know the brand of your battery and the charging voltage you're seeing at the battery terminals while plugged into shore power, then I can forward it over to my contact at WFCO to see what the issue is. Please rest assure, that we will resolve this issue and make sure we get you in working order!

by:

This product works well, as designed. I would like to see it made of a more robust material (cast aluminium) however it is priced very reasonably considering it functionality. Highly recommended

by:

New unit is install (me) and seems to be working fine.
Calibrating the unit to auto detect presently. I’ll let you know how that goes.

by:

It was plugged and play, works great so far.

by:

Arrived quick and got my RV back up and running!

by:

Perfect replacement for the original

by:

The product was a replacement and upgrade and worked perfectly. Siobhan did an excellent job helping me navigate the choices and got the converter delivered to me on time for me to install before my trip. Frosty beverages of choice for her! Thank you!!

by:

Item arrived quickly and in good shape. Other than having to slightly increase the mounting location it installed easily and works great. I like how the cooling fan only runs when it's needed and not constantly like the old unit.

by:

Does the job. Installation takes some time, but this is a direct replacement for the WF-8735 (non-lithium), so it's just a matter of disconnecting/reconnecting wires. Same exact size too, so it screws into the same holes. Only negative is this one has a small green light that always stays on, so if your converter is in a very visible location, it may annoy you at night.

I decided to upgrade the WFCO WF-8735 power converter in my 2020 Aliner Ranger 12 to enable charging my new LifePO4 battery. Staying with the same brand made the power converter upgrade easier. I spoke with eTrailer tech support prior to ordering and they answered all of my questions. The new WFCO power converter is now installed and everything is working as expected. I ordered this product from eTrailer because they had a reasonable price on this product combined with excellent telephone support if needed, as compared to other vendors that might sell it for a little less, but with no technical phone support.

  • Can Older WFCO Converter Charge Lithium Batteries Without Lithium Compatibility
Hi Ric; using a converter that is not rated for lithium is not recommended. Your existing WFCO converter won't be able to fully charger a battery like # 34282738, it could overheat, and might trip the BMS which would shut the battery down until it resets. It could also damage the actual battery which I don't think you want on a new battery. Assuming your solar controller is lithium compatible that will work to keep the battery charged until you get a new converter. However, with a single...
