Can TST Flow Through Sensors Be Used With Extension Kit

Updated 04/13/2026 | Published 04/05/2026

Question:

If I plan to put the tireminder dually extension kits on before these sensors, can I use the passthrough sensors? The extension kit Im talking about is so that I can secure the braided extensions to the lugs.

Hey Tom! Yes, you can physically use the flow-through sensors like # TST-507-FT-6-C with a braided dually extension kit. However, it’s not something we typically recommend.

Those flow-through sensors are larger and heavier, and when you add that weight to the end of an extension, it can put more strain on the fittings. This increases the chances of leaks over time. For that reason, the cap-style sensors # TST-507-RV-6-C are a better choice for use with extensions.

What kind of RV do you have?

I have a class a, Forest River fr3. It has steel rims with simulators. I'm worried about access the the inside dual if I need to add air. It's darn tight in there.

@TomP if you don't think you will be able to access it go with the flow-through. If you don't have metal valve stems I would definitely replace them to help prevent any issues. Rubber valve stems are much more likely to have a problem.

@TomP I have a 2023 LTV Unity on a MBZ 3500 chassis and aluminum rims. I tried the valve stem sensors as I had used successfully on a prior MBZ based RV, but for some reason they caused air pressure leaks. i switched to internal sensors that wrap around the rim. Required dismounting and remounting tires for less than $200. Total success. The sensor batteries are supposed to last at least 5 year, by which time I'll want new tires anyway.
