Question:
I have a 2025 Grand Surveyor 253RLS travel trailer, 50A, with 2 AC units. The ACs are Furrion FACR15HESA2-BL-AM. I understand that this plug in SoftStartUp unit is NOT compatible with variable speed ACs. Are my ACs variable speed or not / is this SoftStartUp compatible with these Furrion units? Thanks!

Hi Michael, that’s a great question and you’re absolutely right to double check this first since the goal is to smooth out those startup spikes without creating new issues. Your Furrion FACR15HESA2-BL-AM Chill HE units (part # FR58TD) are not variable speed ACs, they use a traditional on and off compressor with selectable fan speeds, so they don’t fall into the inverter style category that plug in SoftStart units won’t work with. From that standpoint, the SoftStartUp part # SSR64FR is compatible with the type of AC units you have and is designed for 50 amp setups with two air conditioners like yours.
The part I want to be careful with is how the plug in version interacts with the overall electrical system in your trailer. Since it works at the power inlet instead of being installed directly on each AC, things like an automatic transfer switch or certain energy management systems can affect how well it performs. It will help reduce startup surge, but it does not increase available power, so expectations matter if you are trying to run both units on limited power.
If you want the most consistent and predictable results, especially if your goal is to reliably run both ACs on a smaller power source, a hardwired soft start installed SoftStartRV Soft Start for Dual Zone Air Conditioner Setup part # SSR44FR on each unit is typically the more controlled solution, but the plug in version can still be a good fit if your setup is straightforward.
Do you mostly plug into 50A, use a small generator, or boondock off grid? Do you have an automatic transfer switch?
