Hey Mike! The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter w/ 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector and Install Kit # C59496 will fit your 2026 VW Tiguan. This is a universal wiring harness so it really works with any setup.

The custom wiring harness is on pre-order, and we don't know when it will be available. I also can't confirm compatibility with the Canadian model so I recommend sticking with the universal option to avoid any issues.

Are you setting your Tiguan up for towing or something else?

Local professional installer tried this part and it will not work on this trim level. It will work on lower trim levels!

@MikeH did they give you a reason why? If it works for every other trim level there is no reason it wouldn't work on your Highline R-Line Turbo unless you somehow don't have taillight wiring. It sounds more like it was a pain to access that wiring and he didn't want to bother.

He installed the kit and it would not work. He felt that because of the rear light bar and adaptive taillights no current kits on the market would work. Even the dealerships have nothing and are asking me to call them if I find something that will work. I am currently dealing with VW are I was hoping you could help!

I'm not familiar with this specific model, but taillights are now generally on the CAN bus, meaning they have a computer inside. There probably isn't a good solution short of disassembly and tapping a solder bridge inside between the computer and the light. Put a voltage meter on it. If you read 12v when on, then it's simply wired and this part will work. If you see something way lower, it's probably a can bus signal.

@WarrenS the installer said computer controlled so definitely a can bus signal and no fix. I am pushing VWcare with out much luck or communication! Very frustrating purchasing a top trim SUV that is advertised as pre wired for towing with increased towing capacity and no way to tow! Starting to think VW can have it back.
