Towing Lights that Bypass the Tow Vehicle's Wiring and Are NOT Magnetic

Updated 07/18/2024 | Published 01/09/2021

Question:

I am setting up my 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2-door JL for flat towing. Id prefer to not tie into the existing electrical system for lights. But the JL Jeeps bodies are all plastic and I have a soft top. Very little metal. Do you have any removable tow lights that might work? Or a bulb and socket solution?

If you don't want to tap into your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler's wiring to tow and your top does not have any metal for our magnetic lights, then we have one other option available for you, the Demco LED Light Bar for Towed Vehicles w/ Wireless Transmitter # DM36MV.

This light bar uses suction cup to attach to the roof or trunk and has a secondary connection by straps. This may work for your soft top, but I would suggest finding something with a suction cup on your roof first to test how well it sticks.

You can also look at your roof for attachment points for the straps.

Kef, is the suction cup strong enough to be on the exterior side of the glass. I have really dark tinted windows. Thank you

@JimH I spoke with Demco and they stated that the suction cup would likely be strong enough but the actual electronics of the light are not waterproof and wouldn't be for exterior use. The only alterative we can recommend for this would be a tail light with a magnetic base or for you to install diode wiring to display your motorhome's traffic signals.

Thanks Kevin......issue is I have a Ford truck, they are aluminum, magnets won't stick to the body. Looking for alternatives besides diode kits and splicing factory wires.

@JimH There are suction cup mounted towed vehicle lights on the market, we just unfortunately don't carry any. If you decide you do want to go with a splice-in diode kit then let me know the year and model and I'd be happy to help you find the correct kit.
