What Are The Wire Functions For The RV Propane Gas Detector RS64FR?

I have bought the RVLP-2W to replace my LP-DOB Part 3103. The wires coming out of the old part are black and red. Do I attach black to black and red to red with butt connectors? Ive not ever done anything like this and Im very nervouse. Thank You Monica G

Hello Monica, thanks for reaching out. You are on the right track. For the RV Propane Gas Detector # RS64FR the red wire is for power and black is ground. When you install it, you'll just connect red to red and black to black and you'll be good to go. Those are standard wire colors for these detectors so it will be a very straightforward install. No need to be nervous, you can do it!

What kind of RV is this going in? Any cool trips planned for this year?

2017 Kodiak. No trips I live in it. Thanks for your help. I know I need to shut off power, but do I also have to take connectors off the trailer battery?

@MonicaG Nice! That's the dream! It is the best practice to disconnect the battery anytime you are working on electrical. Its only 12v so it's not like it would hurt you, but just to play it safe yes, I would definitely disconnect.

@MonicaG Those detectors are wired direct to the battery, and there is, somewhere, an inline fuse. So, do completely disconnect the batteries. Just turning power off does not affect those dectors.

@MonicaG Hi Monica, it seems by the way you have described the steps you have mentioned, you are well on your way to having it installed. Jesse M is correct on the info that he has given. I’ve been doing repair work for quite some time, the hardest thing for me was to put the gas detector vertical are horizontal, I had enough slack in the wires to pull detector away from wall and just cut and splice one at a time, yes color match wires and mount it back in the hole, you are finished! Foul proof, you can do it!
