Features to know about

Keeps Your Trailer Level: 2-1/2" Rise or 4" Drop

Getting your trailer height right makes a big difference in how it tows. This forged ball mount gives you both a 4" drop and a 2-1/2" rise, so you can line up your trailer for a level, stable pull. It measures 8-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole, giving plenty of clearance for most setups. Whether you’re hauling a camper or a heavy equipment trailer, it stays solid and balanced either way.

Built to Handle Serious Weight: 20,000 lbs Rating

When you’re hauling heavy loads, you need hardware that won’t flinch. This Class V mount is rated for up to 20,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 2,700 lbs tongue weight. It’s made from solid, one-piece forged steel—no welds or weak spots—and holds that full rating whether you use it in the drop or rise position. It’s dependable strength for big jobs without extra bulk or moving parts.

Simple, Heavy-Duty Design: Fixed Forged Steel Build

Sometimes simple is best. The fixed mount design keeps things solid with fewer parts to worry about loosening over time. The solid steel shank fits a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" hitch receiver and weighs about 17 lbs, giving that satisfying “built like a tank” feel when you slide it in place. The ball hole has a 1-1/4" diameter to fit common heavy-duty hitch balls rated for this capacity.

Resists Rust and Road Grime: Carbide Black Powder Coat Finish

Towing gear takes abuse from rain, salt, and road grit, but this mount’s carbide black powder coat finish keeps rust at bay. The coating holds up to miles of towing and bad weather without peeling or flaking. It stays looking clean and ready to work season after season without requiring special upkeep.

I thought it fit a lose in the receiver. I am going to pull the trailer tomorrow. If it rattles I might have to shin it when not pulling.

Thanks for the quick shipping.

Great ball mount at a great price. Always been happy with etrailer purchases.Been a repeat customer for years and always happy. Always has the answers when asked.

by:

Hitch was exactly what I needed but the service from Etrailer is outstanding.
Not only received materials on time but 2 days early because someone in shipping took the time to upgrade shipping at no extra expense.

I am a customer for life.

by:

It is strong and works great. I pull a trailer loaded in excess of 12,000 lbs. The only thing is it fits a little to lose in the receiver. When pulling empty trailer it rattles.

by:

This is a solid insert that has worked well and meets the load requirement. The boat/trailer combo weighs 18,000 lbs. and this is a critical link in making it a safe tow.
This is the second one I have bought, different offsets, and would recommend it.

by:

It never ceases to amaze me that everyone claims great customer service, but few provide it.

I like to think I 'discovered' etrailer as a true customer service gem, so as I shared my 'find' with my horse towing friends, they told me they already knew and that George is the trailer king.

My only concern now is why my friends didn't tell me sooner. Friends tell friends about etrailer, right?

I count you folks among the very small number of outfits that I can count on to deliver each and every time.

thank you! thank you! thank you!

Quality of product is excellent. Curt hitches are heavy duty and will last a lifetime. My second purchase from etrailer.com. The description and knowledge of their products is exceptional. Very satisfied.

by:

Extra heavy and good quality. Only problem I had was I didn’t see in the info that the ball hole was 1 1/2” instead of 3/4”. So had to order a new ball.

Still like new!! Works great looks like it will last forever!

by:

Needed a heavy duty ball mount and didn't want to deal with an adjustable mount. Extremely impressed with the quality of the 4" drop Curt mount. Solid from ball to mount point, not the hollow mounts made by other companies. With a 20k pound rating it will definitely exceed the weight I plan to tow.

by:

Heavy duty, high quality cast ball mount that fits the 2.5” Ford Superduty receiver without using the reducer sleeve.

by:

I ordered a Class V ball and ball mount with pins. This is for the 2.5 inch heavy duty receiver. I needed a set-up for pulling an emergency services boat that weighs over 18,000 lbs.

I was able to get a set-up rated at 20,000 lbs, in stock. Shipping was fast and quality looks good.

by:

I like etrailer for all my towing needs over the years. The fact you wait a year to ask for a review speaks volumes. 2018 Ram truck has a 2.5" receiver! The square "bushing" set-up supplied with the vehicle did not seem very sound, although it probably is. Anyway the forged 2.5" stinger has been fine-no worries for me! Bomb-proof!!

by:

Needed a drop hitch after buying a 3/4 ton truck. I haul a 27 foot travel trailer and a flatbed trailer with tractor. Very solid and heavy hitch. Etrailer gives great descriptions and dimensions for their products at good prices and great service.

by:

I would recommend the puchase of this receiver hitch for any heavy duty towing. Shipping, delivery time, price, and customer care are top notch at etrailer.com

by:

Information tag was damaged and falling off. Quality control should be better for the price.

by:

The hitch choice didn't work for my 2016 Ram 2500. The trailers that I needed to tow had a fixed trailer jack.
If I lowered my tailgate, due to it's big lip design, it would hit the jack. I resorted to a hitch that was longer and was adjustable.

by:

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my dad to use on his late model Chevrolet 2500HD 4x4 (4" drop). I had heard him complain several times about the rattling associated with the 2" adapter and his old ball mounts. Needless to say he now has no more rattle and plenty of capacity with this heavy duty unit. Highly recommended for 2.5" hitches!

by:

I use to tow a 1999 Sea Ray 330 Sundancer with my 2011 Ford F350. Needed something that would handle the weight and this definitely does that. Good quality and seems very strong. Perfect drop to make the trailer sit level when connected to the truck. The only negative I would say about it is that it fits fairly loose in the receiver. Also, the hitch pin hole in the mount is a little oversize so there is some back and forth when stopping and taking off.

by:

My hitch and ball is everything I need to pull my boat. Great customer service and web site. To bad it was made in China. USA

This item came right on time and was exactly what I needed. The product quality is first rate and it was exactly as advertised in the product description. The assembly was very easy and left me with full confidence about the compatibility of these components.

Still works very well and i have ordered more of the same item.

by:

Showed up when they said, and very happy with it

by:

This review does not just serve my recent order, but all of the orders before it. I have purchased a number of items from etrailer and everything was sent in a timely manor as stated and promised. All of the items I received were exactly as described. I watched a number of videos, read a number of diagrams and all of the help information was exactly what I needed. In other words I did not need to go anywhere else to get a full tow package for a Dodge 5500 that did not have one. I cannot say enough about how this website helped me. Also the pricing was about the best I could find and I did a lot of searching to make sure. This is a top notch site and I will absolutely come back here for my future towing needs.

See what our Experts say about this CURT Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

  • Are Solid Shank Ball Mounts Better Than Those with a Hollow Shank
You can absolutely trust the manufacturer ratings for the ball mounts we have available, regardless of whether or not they feature a solid or hollow shank. Ball mounts and other towing products are typically tested well beyond their actual listed capacities, so you can be sure they can handle the specificied maximums without issue. You will just need to make sure that the various other components of your towing system can also support the weights you are looking to pull, such as the trailer...

  • Is The Curt Forged Ball Mount C45458 Still Rated For 20K When Used In Rise Position?
Hello David, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the Curt Forged Ball Mount # C45458 is rated for 20,000 when used in the rise position. The 20,000 lb rating applies to the drop or the rise position.

  • Recommended Ball Mount with 4" Drop for a 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
The Roadmaster High-Low Adapter part # RM-058-4 is designed for flat towing applications and is not rated for the tongue weight associated with straight pull towing. If you need a ball mount with a 4" drop then I recommending using the Curt Forged Ball Mount part # C45458. As long as you have a 2-1/2" trailer hitch receiver on your 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 then this ball mount will work well for you. If you have a standard 2" trailer hitch receiver then you will want to use the Curt...

  • Determining Proper Trailer Ball Height
In order to determine what rise/drop ball mount you need, you'll need to take some measurements. Measure the distance from the inside top of the receiver opening to the ground. Then with a level trailer, measure the distance from the underside of the coupler to the ground. The difference between these two measurements will be the rise/drop you'll need. If the hitch is higher than the coupler, you'll need a drop. If the coupler is taller than the hitch, you'll need a ball mount with a rise....

  • Ball Mount for 2-1/2 inch Hitch that Has 4 inches of Drop

  • How Long Should Hitch Ball Shank Be to Fit Curt Forged Ball Mount # C45458
The 2-1/2 inch shank length on B&W ball # BWHB94004 might be just a bit too short for ball mount # C45458. The recommended ball, # C40008, has a shank length of 2-3/4 inches. Basically the shank has to be long enough for the nut to thread all the way on with about 3 or more threads sticking out past the bottom of the nut.

  • Is there a Ball Mount Larger than a Class V 2-1/2 Inch
If your hitch receiver opening is larger than 2-1/2 inches then the next step up is a 3 inch if you are talking about physical size and not capacity. The 3 inch ball mount you need is # 40701 if this is the case. The hitch ball to fit is # C40085. This is not a common size though so I do recommend verifying the size of the receiver opening on the hitch. I have also included a link to our ball mount main page. If you mean capacity then the highest capacity 2-1/2 inch ball mount that we...

  • Recommended Pintle Hitch and Lunette Ring for 2015 Ford F-750 with 23,800 lb Trailer
For your 2015 Ford F750 boom truck, there is not a ball mount rated for that weight capacity. The largest capacity is 20K for a 2-1/2 inch hitch like # C45458 or 21K for a 3 inch hitch receiver like # C45430. We don't have a trailer hitch receiver rated that high either. It appears the truck does have the towing capacity to handle that trailer, but you will need to use a direct mount like the Curt Pintle Hook - Bolt On - 30,000 lbs # C48215. A pintle hook and lunette ring combination...

  • What is Hitch Pin Size for Curt # 45458 Class-V Hitch
The Curt # C45458 ball mount uses a 5/8" hitch pin with clip or locking mechanism. For a simple pin and clip, you can use the Draw-Tite # PC3, or if you prefer a locking hitch pin I recommend the Fastway # FA86-00-3050 Receiver Lock. I have attached a link to these product pages and a video review of the BW lock.

  • Will Hitch Balls # 19286 and # A-90 Fit the Curt Forged Ball Mount # C45458
Yes, both of the hitch balls ( # 19286 and # A-90) would have long enough shanks to fit the Curt Forged Ball Mount # C45458. They also have the correct shank diameter of 1-1/4 inch.

  • Stop Battery Drain While Towing 2020 Honda Civic Behind Motorhome
To prevent your 2020 Honda Civic coupe (with manual transmission) battery from draining while towed you need a Roadmaster # RM-156-25 Battery Charge Line Kit. This line runs from your Honda's battery to the center post of your six pin connector on the front of your Honda. You installed this 6-pin connector as part of your previous install of the Roadmaster RM-15267 kit. I have attached a link to the charge line kit page and to an installation video. • How to Add Friction Sway Control Tab to Side of Curt Ball Mount # C45458
The # RP26003 would not fit the Curt ball mount part # C45458 as the ball hole of the ball mount is too big for the # RP26003. Instead you'd need to weld on the tab # 3442 to attach it.

It is true that we recommend using 2 friction anti-sway systems like the Curt # 17200 when the trailer exceeds 26' long. This is simply because 1 system won't be effective enough to make a difference. I believe that you are referring to the Curt Forged Ball Mount # C45458 which has a 4" drop and fits 2-1/2" hitch receivers. You can have 2 of the weld-on sway control tab # C45822 installed on this ball mount so you can use 2 of the kit # 17200 and it would work just fine. Even though...
