Updated 02/18/2026 | Published 02/14/2026

Question:

The specs and user info says for the Hopkins HM56206 that a brake relay in needed to make everything work right. Will this BLU83HR wiring kits work correctly without a relay? plug and play There was also question from a 2007 owner on manufacture date. My TOAD is 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4X4. Manufactured 9-05 Vin1J4HR58N46C159384. Buying Base plate BX1123 and one of these wiring systems. Which one would work best and why? Thank you for your assistance!

Hey Dan, whether or not you'll need a brake lite relay like the part # RM-88400 will be dependent on the taillight setup of your 2006 Cherokee with the # BLU83HR installed. Does your braking system push the brake pedal of the GC when it's applying the brakes? If when the vehicle is turned off and you press the brakes the stoplights come on still you need the relay. If the light does not come on then you do not need it.
