Do You Have a Trailer that I can Transport My Inflatable Catamaran Boat with My Tesla Model 3?

Updated 02/16/2026 | Published 02/05/2026

Question:

Hi etrailer Team, Im purchasing a Stealth Hitches 391TES317T for my Tesla Model 3 Performance and I need help finding the right trailer to transport my Sea Eagle FastCat 14 inflatable catamaran. The boat is 144 long with an 80 beam 68 wide, weighs about 111 lbs for the hull alone, and has a catamaran design with two inflatable pontoon tubes. Id be transporting it fully inflated, potentially with a Honda 9.9 hp motor attached. Total loaded weight would be around 200 lbs. Because the Tesla sits so low, Im looking for a lower-profile trailer. Ive been considering the Malone MegaSport LowBed MPG550-LB since it has 86 crossbars and sits just 25 off the ground, but Im not sure what bunk or platform setup would properly support an 80-wide inflatable catamaran. Ive also looked at the Trailex SUT-450I and the LoadRite 16F1200WT but have fitment concerns with both. Have you had any customers towing wide inflatable catamarans like this behind a Tesla or other low-profile car? Any trailer and accessory combination youd recommend that would work without major custom modifications? Thank you, David

Hi David,

Thank you for your patience while I reached out to both Malone and Yakima to get more detailed guidance for your Sea Eagle FastCat 14 setup.

The Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit - Custom Fit - 2" # 391TES317T will be a great fit for your Tesla Model 3 just as long as it falls between a 2017 - present (2026).

Malone confirmed that their trailer carriers are designed specifically for kayaks and canoes, and they do not currently offer a carrier system engineered for inflatable catamarans. While their LowBed trailers can accommodate longer crossbars, they were not able to confirm a proven setup for a boat like yours. They knew this question well, they told me that you reached out and are aware.

Yakima reviewed the specifications of your FastCat 14 and advised that their LowRider trailer would be the best option they offer for your application. The LowRider sits lower than their other models, which makes it a better match for a low-profile vehicle like your Tesla Model 3 Performance. It also features sturdy HD crossbars with integrated tie-down points. To better support the 14-foot inflatable catamaran, Yakima recommends adding the optional third crossbar to provide additional mid-boat support and improved weight distribution.

Because your boat will be transported fully inflated and may include a motor, the added crossbar will help ensure more stable support across the 80-inch beam. While Yakima does not have a tested accessory specifically for inflatable catamarans, they confirmed the trailer itself is structurally suitable, and secure tie-down technique will be key.

The Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer with 12-inch wheels and 750 lb capacity, part # Y82QD is going to be your best option, I am currently getting the 3rd bar added to our site, I will let you know as soon as it is available for purchase.

If you need some tie-down straps, check out our etrailer Ratchet Straps w/ S-Hooks and Accessory Bag - 2" x 15' - 700 lbs - Qty 4 # e92NR, I like that they come with the bag, nice way to keep things organized.

As a final step, I do recommend confirming your Tesla’s towing capacity and tongue weight rating with Tesla to ensure it is approved for use with this style of recreational trailer.

Have you purchased the boat already, have you been able to take it out? What body of water is near you that you will be going out on? I have a Ranger so I am out at the Lake of the Ozarks, and Mark Twain Lake here in Missouri.

Thanks for going the extra mile and reaching out to Malone and Yakima directly. I appreciate the thorough research; you've earned my future business. That said, I'm going to go a different direction with a Trailex trailer that's purpose-built for inflatable catamarans, but I'll keep etrailer in mind for straps and accessories. Thanks again!
