Roof racks mean lifting overhead, and most boats won't fit in your truck bed. After a day on the water, you're running on fumes and lifting again is too much. This trailer keeps the height low, so you can slide your boats on and head home.

Highlights

  • No Overhead Lifting: Low height makes it easy to load - no need to lift boats onto your vehicle's roof.
  • Back It In: Fully submersible so you can load straight from the water.
  • Custom Fit Your Gear: Adjustable crossbars let you haul different size boats.
  • Smooth Ride, Less Bounce: Tuned suspension absorbs bumps so your kayaks don't get rattled on the road.
  • Grab and Go: Built-in handle makes moving the trailer effortless to move by hand.
  • Garage-Friendly Storage: Keep your kayaks on the trailer, not your garage floor.

Features to Know About

Crossbars Accommodate Kayaks, Canoes, and Other Watercraft

LowRider crossbarsLowRider crossbars

The Yakima LowRider kayak trailer has adjustable crossbars that make it easy to set the trailer up with your favorite kayak carriers. Popular options like the BigCatch, SweetRoll, and JayLow (Y04091, Y04074, and Y04073 - each sold separately) all mount like they would on a roof rack. Just slide the bars where you need them and attach the carriers. And if your setup changes down the line, you can move the bars to match whatever you're using next. But you're not limited to kayaks, the trailer works great with canoes, SUPs, and fishing gear, depending on how you set it up. The crossbars are compatible with both clamp-on and channel-mount carriers, so you can use whatever works best for you.

Load Up Without the Workout

LowRider trailer low loading height

Loading your boats 28 inches off the ground beats lifting overhead, especially when you're already worn out from a long day on the water. The trailer's low height lets you slide your kayak straight on without climbing, reaching, or shifting your stance to find leverage. Your tired arms and back will appreciate it.

Watertight and Worry-Free

LowRider is submersible

If you're not into lifting at all, just back the trailer into the water and slide your boats on. The fully sealed LEDs are built for submersion, so they hold up no matter how many times they get dunked. They handle stop, turn, and tail signals so other drivers can see you better on the road and they stay visible at the ramp when you're backing down in low light. The wiring is protected with heat-shrink connectors and marine-grade insulation to block out shorts so the lights won't flicker.

Roll It Where You Need It - By Hand

LowRider trailer low loading height

You don't always have the space to back straight up to the coupler. The built-in handle lets you roll the trailer to your hitch instead of inching your vehicle into position. It's just as useful when you're storing the trailer in a garage or shifting it around a campsite. If you're keeping your boats loaded between trips, the handle makes it easy to roll the trailer wherever you want. Add the optional trailer jack (Y54XD - sold separately) and you can move it without lifting a thing.

Keep Your Kayaks Safe

LowRider suspension

The trailer is equipped with an axle and leaf spring suspension that absorbs vibration and takes the edge off rough roads. It travels smooth on the highway and won't bounce or drift behind your car. It also rolls over gravel, sand, and uneven ground better than a standard utility trailer. And unlike those trailers, there's nothing to modify.

  • Comparing Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer to Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer
Hey Steve, it looks like you are comparing the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer with J-Carriers part # MAL93FR with the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD. The Malone actually has a 400 lb weight capacity vs. the Yakima which is rated for 750. The Malone does come with carriers whereas the Yakima actually does not contrary to what the pictures show. It also looks like the Malone actually costs a lot less so maybe you were looking at a different Malone trailer? Your NUCANOE Unlimited weighs...

  • Will the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer Work with My 2 Old Town AutoPilot Kayaks? Weight Capacity?
Hello Nathaniel, Wow, those are some really nice fishing kayaks! The Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD will be a perfect fit for you. With a 270-pound weight capacity, it can easily handle your 240-pound load without any issues. I’m especially excited about this trailer for fishing kayaks because of the adjustable crossbars, which allow you to fine-tune the setup to your needs. I’ve heard of other kayak trailers having issues to haul fishing kayaks properly, but this one eliminates...

  • Is There Kayak Trailer with Retractable Tongue
Hey Scotty, the tongue of the Yakima LowRider part # Y82QD does not have ability to fold or retract. BUT we do have the Malone MicroSportXT Trailer # MPG460XT that does have a retractable tongue. It also can carry boats up to 20 feet in length and has a similar capacity of 800 lb.

  • Does the Jack Come with the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer? What Tie-Downs are Needed?
Hello Klenke, Great question! The Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer - 12" Wheels - 20' Boat - 750 lbs # Y82QD does not come with the jack, you will want to get the Trailer Jack w/ Wheel for Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y54XD. Don't forget to grab some tie-downs as well, the Yakima HD Hook Straps with Cam Buckles # Y01165 will be the ones you want, one set per kayak. They hook directly to the side of the crossbars on the trailer, doesn't get easier than that. I was pretty excited to see...

  • Recommended Kayak Carrier and Trailer for Two Kayaks
Hey Bethany, the Yakima LowRider # Y82QD has a max weight capacity of 750 lbs so as long as your kayaks aren't terribly wide and don't exceed the capacity, I don't see why you can use this for both. For a carrier, I'd recommend going with the Yakima JayLow Kayak Roof Rack w/ Tie-Downs # Y04073 which will mount your kayaks on their sides rather than flat across, saving space on the trailer. What kind of kayaks do you have? Knowing what you have could help give more of a definitive answer....

Hey Gregory, there is a spare tire kit! For the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD you can use the Spare Tire Kit for Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y22QD. If there is anything else I can do for you, please feel free to drop a comment and let me know!

  • Where is Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer Manufactured
Hey Larry! With the exception of their USA made cargo boxes, everything from Yakima is manufactured in China or Taiwan. They wouldn't give me the specifics for the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD so all I can say is it comes from one of those two locations. If you're looking for a made in the USA option I recommend the Malone MicroSport Off-Road Base Trailer # MAL44ER instead. This is the basic trailer but it also comes in several configurations with different kayak carriers or...

  • Is There Suspension On The Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer Y82QD?
Hello Lydia, thanks for reaching out. Yes, there is suspension on the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD. It uses a leaf spring suspension system. You will see similar suspension on a lot of other trailers, it is quite common. A durable and effective trailer suspension system to be sure.

  • Is It Possible To Add A Second Tier To The LowRider Kayak Trailer Y82QD?
Hello Dick, thanks for reaching out. That is an interesting idea but the Yakima OverHaul HD # Y01151-57 is designed to attach to the bed rails on a pickup truck. So there is no guarantee this would work with the LowRider Kayak Trailer. There might be a way to make it work, but this is not something we have ever tested so there is no handbook or instructions I could provide. The LowRider Kayak Trailer is not intended to have a second tier unfortunately so if you were to set something like...

  • Can Wheel Jack be Added to Yakima EasyRider Trailer
Hey Fernando, I literally just got out of a Yakima training where we were checking out the Yakima LowRider # Y82QD and our Yakima rep made it a point to tell us that the jack part # Y54XD that you referenced does fit the EasyRider # Y08129 so it for sure will work.

  • Can the Yakima LowRider Be Fully Submerged to Launch Kayaks
Hey Tate, yes you can back the Yakima LowRider # Y82QD right into the water. Since this is a kayak trailer designed to be submerged, all of the bearings and the lights are fully submersible. • Can Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer Be Used For Canoes
Hey Tim! You can definitely use the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD to carry your Old Town Discovery 158s. This works with kayaks, canoes, and other watercraft. Since you aren't exceeding the 20' max boat length or 270 lb capacity you have nothing to worry about. One thing worth mentioning is that it does not come with a trailer jack. If you want one on the tongue of the trailer the KickStand w/ Wheel for Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y54XD is available separately. If you have...

  • Can I Install A Cargo Box On The Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer Y82QD
Hello Josh. Yes, you can install a cargo box on the crossbars of the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD. The LowRider crossbars are the Yakima HD Crossbars part # Y01159, which are 78" long, 3" wide and 1-1/2" tall. These will be compatible with virtually any rooftop cargo box that attaches to crossbars. You will just need to make sure the cargo box will work with a 36" crossbar spread, since this is the minimum crossbar spread for the LowRider trailer. Most cargo boxes from major brands...

  • Recommended Kayak Carrier for the Yakima JawLow Kayak Trailer
Hey Blake, the bars on the Yakima LowRider # Y82QD are just the Yakima HD Crossbars # Y01159 so they are 3" wide. For a kayak carrier, the Yakima JawLow # Y04073 is an excellent choice that'll fit those bars and will let you haul up to 2 kayaks. These bars also do have t-slots, so you could go that route as well. What kind of kayaks are you hauling? Going anywhere fun? Feel free to let me know if there is something I can do for you!

  • Will Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer Y82QD Work For Carrying Old Town Sportsman 106 Kayaks?
Hello Jack, thanks for reaching out. The Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer is a great option for carrying tow Old Town sportsman 106 kayaks. The crossbars are 78" long so you will have room to spare with the kayaks side by side. Also, the tires have a 75 mph speed rating, so they will be fine to use at highway speeds as long as you obey the posted speed limits. Sadly, Yakima does not offer a bunk kit for this trailer as it is only intended for carrying kayaks and not larger boats.

  • How Wide Is The Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer Y82QD At The Wheels?
Hey Bryan, good question. For the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD, the 78" crossbars are by far the widest part of the trailer. If you were to remove the crossbars, the next widest part would be the fenders. The width at the fenders is 68". The tires sit inside the fenders, but they were not able to provide me with the exact width at the tires. The fender width would be the thing to look at here though. If your garage door is 68" wide or more, the trailer will fit with the crossbars...

  • What Is The Coupler Height Of The Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer Y82QD
Hello Jimmy, thanks for reaching out. The Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD is going to have a 17.75" coupler height. The 2024 Honda CR-V has a hitch height of about 13.5". This means you will want a ball mount with about 4" of rise for the trailer to be level when you tow. What I recommend for this is the etrailer Adjustable Ball Mount # e66PR. This has up to 6" of rise or drop, so this would work great for the Yakima trailer, or virtually any other trailer you would want to tow...

  • Availability of Roof Rack That Fits 2 Old Town Sportsman Autopilot 120 Fishing Kayaks
Hey Philip! It looks like the kayaks are 37" wide so 74" for both. The Yakima HD Crossbars # Y01159 are 78" long and can be installed using the # TimberLine Towers # Y33TR and HD Bar Adapter # Y03541. However, the specs show these weigh 152 lbs each, is that correct? The weight limit of the feet/towers is 220 lbs so if they are that heavy a roof rack won't be an option. Your vehicle roof capacity may not be high enough to hold them either. If the total weight of your kayaks is 304 lbs...
