Troubleshooting Roadmaster Invisibrake That Stays Engaged When Disconnected From Motorhome

Updated 02/09/2026 | Published 02/03/2026

Question:

I installed the invisbrake on my 21 wrangler. When it is disconnected from the motorhome the brake stays engaged. Is this a diode issue?

Hello Brian, thanks for reaching out. Short answer, this usually isn’t a diode issue. If an InvisiBrake stays applied after you disconnect from the motorhome, it’s almost always because the unit lost 12V power. The InvisiBrake needs constant power to release the brake, so if the Jeep’s battery is low, a fuse is blown, or the charge line isn’t feeding the Wrangler, the brake can stay engaged.

I’d start by checking battery voltage right after towing, then verify the charge line from the motorhome is active and fused correctly. Also make sure the InvisiBrake power and ground connections are solid and that the breakaway pin is fully seated. Diodes only affect brake light signals, not brake release. Are you running a dedicated charge line from the coach to the Jeep, or relying on the Jeep’s battery alone?

My only thought would be, did you pull the brake away up front to disconnect the cable instead of just disconnecting the cable?

We are totally pleased so far with our first full year using this product. Before we pull out for a trip we check lights, signals and brakes by listening for the vacuum line engage. We have had no negative issues with this product. I would only add that having a very experienced DIY mechanic or professional mechanic complete the installation. Our 2014 CRV was not a big challenge; but, brakes are critical to safety - recommend experienced installer to at least help if you are (like I was) DIY type. Great product. Bill P Delaware

@BillP Thanks for sharing that, Bill. Glad to hear it’s been solid for a full year and that you’ve had zero issues. Good call on having an experienced installer involved too, brakes are definitely not something to cut corners on. Appreciate you taking the time to pass that along.
