Replacement for Gunmetal Gray Lionshead Leopard 15" Wheel

Updated 01/15/2026 | Published 01/13/2026

Question:

Hello...I have a 2015 Forest River Hyperlite XLR 27hsf with Lionshead Leopard aluminum wheels, 15 6 lug on 5- 1/2. I lost a wheel/tire and they no longer make that wheel. I just bought all new tires so I just need to replace the wheel and find another tire. I went to F rated as my trailer is a Toy Hauler a little overkill I know . My wheels are Gunmetal Gray. It appears that the leopard was replaced by the Liger, however I dont see any in that color. It looks like the Aluminum Margay you carry, Code : LH38VR is really close in color and design. Can you advise if this would be the closest to a replacement to the Leopard, or is there a Ligar available in Gunmetal Gray? Thanks Very much! Jeff

Hi Jeff; I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the gunmetal gray Liger is also discontinued. This is a pretty common occurrence with Lionshead wheels, and very frustrating for all of us.

The Aluminum Margay Trailer Wheel # LH38VR you mentioned is going to be the closest option for a replacement without swapping out all of the wheels to match. It might be worth checking with a local RV salvage yard to see if they have a Leopard first, but there are a lot of people looking for these wheels so odds are pretty low you'll find one.

How did you lose your wheel?

The Margay does look pretty close, and probably the best choice without purchasing 4 new wheels. One of the questions I haven't been able to find is what is the Max PSI for the Leopard and the Margay wheels? Some wheels are only rated for up to 80 or 100 psi so that will determine my tire rating limit. I actually lost Both wheels on the passenger side! We had just made the last turn before reaching the entrance to Ft Wilderness at Disney when my daughter shouted out she saw a wheel spinning off into the woods! I immediately pulled over ,with little room, just as the trailer tilted to the right. All the hub studs had sheard off but everything else was intact. The one wheel was located but we couldn't find the other. A service was called and they brought me a new tire and wheel and we were able to get into our site. Our best guess is that when the new tires were put on they were impacted on and most likely weakened the studs. I should have rechecked the torque , however that wouldn't have helped weakened studs. The bearings were checked and repacked and the new studs were all torqued. Now I have to decide to try to match one aluminum wheel or buy an entirely new set.

@JeffF well that doesn't sound like a very magical experience. Hopefully you had a good time once you made it there! The wheels like the Margay with the rubber valve stem can handle 100 psi. You can always swap out the valve stem, since that is the limiting factor. The # AM20906 is rated for up to 200 psi so you would be able to use any tire out there.
