Will the Trailer Valet Adjustable Drill Powered Square Jack Work on a 2017 Airstream Tommy Bahama?

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 01/10/2026

Question:

Is there any reason this wouldn’t work on a 27’ Airstream. If I can use this jack and take the factory jack off then I would be able to open my tailgate. Thank you, Jason

Hello Jason,

The Trailer Valet Adjustable Drill Powered Square Jack - 3,000 lbs # TV83FR can work on a 2017 Airstream Tommy Bahama Travel Trailer, as long as a couple of things are confirmed first. The 3,000 lb lifting capacity is generally sufficient for that model’s tongue weight, but it is still a good idea to double-check the actual loaded tongue weight to be sure you stay within the jack’s limits. You will also want to verify that the jack can be mounted cleanly to the A-frame after removing the factory jack, since Airstream uses a fairly specific mounting setup that may require an adapter plate rather than being a direct bolt-on.

Swapping to this jack can definitely help with tailgate clearance, but the jack is not always the only part that affects it. On the Tommy Bahama models, the propane tray and battery box are often just as likely to interfere with the tailgate as the jack itself, so that is something to keep in mind. Because this jack is drill powered, a strong high-torque drill will make lifting the trailer much easier, especially with a heavier Airstream, and using a solid footpad will help keep everything stable when unhitching.

I see that you ordered the Square A-Frame Jack w/ Footplate - Drop Leg - Sidewind - 28-3/4" Lift - 3,000 lbs # TJDA-5000S, is there more of a match to the one you are replacing, or for a different trailer?

Hey Jason, how did things go with the jack swap on your Airstream? Did the new setup give you the tailgate clearance you were hoping for? Your update could make it easier for others working with similar trailers.
