Which Curt Helux for Rhino Pin Box for 2,240 lb of Pin Weight

Published 12/22/2025

Question:

My new keystone came with this hitch, but my question is the pin plate is tilted forward with 2240 lbs of pin weight, and seems like it is very stiff when towing. Is there a option for a lighter spring, and how do you correct the forward tilt?

Hey Dennis, the pin weight you have of 2,240 lb is right in the sweet spot of the Curt Helux part # C75MJ as it has a minimum weight of 1,610 lb and a max weight of 3,500 lb so even if there was a replacement spring for it I wouldn't recommend changing it. How many miles have you put on the pin box? If not very many I would give it a little more time to break in a little bit more and see if the ride quality gets a little better.

I have maybe 1000 miles on the pin box, but after coming through SC my old trail air would move more than 4 in , where this one it is hard to measure but judging i see maybe about 1/2 in of movement but to me it seems off from measuring the shock length bot unhooked, and hooked and loaded is about 1 in. Which if it were to settle down about 3 in it would help with the downward angle of the pin plate.

@DennisD that should be enough mileage for it to feel broken in so I wouldn't assume it's that. Are you sure you have the # C75MJ and not possibly a higher rated version that would have a stiffer spring? Is the trailer sitting level?

@JamesonC Yes it is sitting as level as possable right now the B&W sliding hitch is set as low as it will go, and the pin box as high as possable, but still sits about 2 in high in the nose. And the pin box is a manufacture installed unit, I will have to find the actual part number.

@Dennis That's interesting but getting the nose down more so that the trailer is level will put more weight onto the pin box which will allow it to move more. There are quite a few different versions of the Helux for the Rhino Box so I am curious what exact model number you have so we can verify if you have one that is rated too high or not.
