Question:

Hello! Trying to understand the installation process and what tools I will need. Does this installation require any drilling or cutting? Can you post the installation manual?

Hello T; the installation of the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch # EH64CR does not require drilling but it does require cutting. You will have to cut out a section from the bumper and exhaust panels, and part of the muffler shield.

The rest of the installation is just removing and installing bolts. I attached the cutting diagram below for your reference. EcoHitch doesn't host their instructions online but I can email you the full file if you want it.

What will you be using the hitch for?

Hey Robin, thanks for the response! This is helpful in assessing my skill level, tools, etc., especially the diagram you posted. I'm definitely hesitant about the cutting portion, especially without a video tutorial to follow. I would like to see the instructions, but tbh I'm hesitant about irreversibly modifying the vehicle. Re: What will I use the hitch for? Just a cargo hitch tray to increase our cargo volume ahead of a holiday road trip in our 2023 Outlander PHEV. It seems like the "bolt on only" option is only rated for 200 total lbs of tongue weight, while this one is 400 lbs. Was interested in the higher weight capacity in case we needed that in the future.. but I'm not 100% we'll use the full 400 lbs. If you guys have any "zero modification" receivers for the 2023 Outlander PHEV that have a higher rating than 200 lbs, I'd love to see it!

@TL I wouldn't worry too much about altering the vehicle. It won't actually impact anything that matters, you're only adding functionality with the hitch. The only way for us to get a video is if someone brings it in for installation so until that happens I can't help you out there. I would also check out the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle itself. You're always limited by the lowest rating so if it is no higher than 200 lbs a hitch like the Curt # C86FV will do the job just as well as the EcoHitch. The only real difference is it lacks the removable receiver so you will see that hanging down all the time. I'll go ahead and send you the file with the installation instructions.
