Hi Eddie!

The EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # EH64CR is technically listed for only the PHEV models. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C87WR is what I recommend for the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL C-AWD as it is the one that has been verified to fit. I know it isn't as nice, but I can guaranty the fitment of it.

Now with that being said, I don't know why they are not interchangeable. I went out to the warehouse and measured the mounting bracket bolt pattern for both of these hitches and they are exactly the same (see included image). The brackets themselves are pretty different in shape though, so I can't for sure say the EcoHitch will fit properly.

If you are a gambling man, you could try. But, I would really like to be kept in the loop about the fitment, good or bad. And also, since I'm basically giving you the go ahead to try it (yep, I'm curious now), if it just won't fit, I can cover the return shipping.

Is there a specific reason you are looking at the EcoHitch? Pretty sure I can guess, but also figured I would ask.

Hey Lazer S, Thanks for the heads up. The reason for this particular hitch is to increase the reinforcement of the rear bumper. My daughter was hit a while back and the car popped the bumper off the Mitsubishi. I feel that you’re stealth tow hitch would assist in making the rear of the vehicle a little more stable and take hit better and the receiver doesn’t have to be installed unless a day comes when it would be needed. I already used this particular style hitch on my 2026 KIA Sportage for that very reason. I had it installed about fifteen years ago on a previous vehicle and sure enough, a car hit my SUV when it was parked and had minimal damage but the car that hit me was totaled. I’ll have to think about what you mentioned and decide on it. I will let you guys know what happens. Thanks again.

@EddieJ Oh dang! She ok? And that make sense. Having a hitch on the back would spread the impact out better for sure. Now if we could just get people to drive better, we would all be a much happier and safer. Pretty sure that's not gonna happen though (insert heavy sigh here). I do also have to admit that this isn't what I was expecting you to say, mostly. Most people go for these hitches purely for the receiver tube being able to be removed. It is a pretty big selling feature for these. Let me know which way you end up going and if you have any other questions or anything! Stay safe out there!

@LazerS I'm not sure if you saw the follow-up question that I posted on 12/6/2025 regarding this thread. I'm thinking that I forgot to tag you properly, so I'm trying it again. I'm really interested in this hitch and wondering if you may have learned anything new about whether or not it will fit a 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander (gas version, not PHEV). Thanks!
