Hi David!

5th wheel wiring harnesses, like the 7 foot long Bargman # 54700-003 (universal) or # 54701-007 (custom fit to your 2022 F-250), are made longer than most other wiring harnesses for convenience. What I mean by that, it allows you the convenience of putting the 7-way plug wherever you want or need in your bed. A shorter harness would limit you on where the 7-way could be installed.

The vast majority of people doing this will end up with a bunch of extra wire that needs to be tied up and out of the way, but there are some that really do need it.

Where are you wanting to mount the 7-way? The 7' harnesses are actually the shortest we have available as the other ones are 10' long. I did talk to a guy once that said he cut the wire to get rid of the excess, but I don't recommend doing that unless you really know what you are doing.

Hey David, how did things go with adding the 7-way plug inside your truck bed? Did the 7-foot Bargman harness give you enough flexibility for where you wanted to mount it? Your update could make it easier for others setting up similar wiring.
