Best Trailer Hitch For 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Base Model

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 09/18/2025

Question:

Hello. Two questions please . . . 1. I have a 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander. It is a regular model, not a PHEV. Do you sell any hitches to fit this vehicle? If yes, what are my options? 2. Just curious, who is etrailer? What I mean by that is, are you an actual manufacturer of trailer hitches or a retailer of hitches made by other companies? Thank you!

Hello Daniel, thanks for reaching out!

To answer your first question, yes, we do offer a trailer hitch for the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander regular model. The etrailer Class 3 Hitch # e79ZV is what I recommend for that. This has a 2" receiver, 525 lb tongue weight rating and 3,500 lb towing capacity.

To answer your second question, we are an online parts retailer. We are a family-owned business based out of Wentzville, MO (near St Louis). We cover pretty much anything RV/Trailer/Towing/Sport&Rec and Camping related. We do have our own line of parts, just like the etrailer # e79ZV hitch I mentioned. We do not actually manufacture the parts here at out HQ in Wentzville. Our etrailer line of hitches is actually made by Curt, which is a well-known towing company. We are an authorized dealer for tons of popular towing product companies like Curt, Draw-Tite, Demco, Blue Ox, Yakima, Thule and many, many, more.

All that said, what do you plan to use the trailer hitch for? Will you be towing a trailer? Or do you have a bike rack?

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help

Thanks, Jesse. Thanks for explaining. I do have a couple of follow-up questions. 1.) The etrailer #e79ZV hitch that you suggested, I'm guessing that's exactly the same as the Curt #13487 hitch. Yes or no? 2.) Is the hitch fully concealed (except for the receiver, of course)? No visible crossbar showing or anything? 3.) Are those my only options? Nothing from Draw-Tite or any of your other suppliers? 4.) I'm sort of scratching my head as to why the only option is a Class III when that exceeds the towing capabilities of the vehicle. A Class I or II would seem more appropriate for the Outlander's towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, but those aren't available, are they? Thanks!

@DanielK Hello Daniel! 1. Yes. The etrailer hitches are made by Curt and are structurally identical. The only difference is the etrailer hitches use a matte black powder coating, while the Curt has a gloss black coating. We have found the matte black coating blends better with the underbody of the vehicle, and it better at resisting scuffs and scratches. 2. Yes. The crosstube on the hitch will be fully concealed behind the bumper. 3. There is one other hitch for the 2025 Outlander, the EcoHitch # EH64CR. This features a removable receiver so it can be completely hidden when not in use. It is quite a bit more expensive than the Curt or etrailer option. 4. It is quite common for trailer hitches to be rated higher than the vehicle itself. This is usually because the hitches are tested to higher capacities. Just keep in mind your towing setup is only as strong as the weakest component. So even though the hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs, your max towing capacity will be 2,000 lbs. That said, Curt does make a 2,000 lb rated hitch part # C86FV. My recommendation is still the etrailer # e79ZV. You would be paying less fora more robust hitch. I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out anytime with any other questions! I am here to help !

Thanks for the additional info, Jesse. The EcoHitch with the removable receiver that you mentioned is actually my dream hitch, and I would gladly pay a premium price for it, but I reached out to them directly before finding your company, and they told me that they do not make a hitch for my vehicle. They only make one for the Outlander PHEV, and I have the gas-powered model. I thought they would both take the same hitch, but I guess something underneath makes them different. I did go ahead and click the link for the EH64CR, and unless I'm reading the description wrong, it appears to only fit 2022 Outlander PHEV models. Can you please confirm? The C86FV also appears to be only for the PHEV models. Can you please confirm this too? Thanks!

@DanielK Hey Daniel. Honestly when I wrote that I forgot yours was the regular model and not the PHEV. Sorry for the mix up. You are correct the EcoHitch and the Curt # C86FV are only for the PHEV model. The Curt # C87WR and etrailer # e79ZV are the only hitches for the base model at this time. Sorry to get your hopes up about the EcoHitch lol. Don't rule out the possibility of them coming out with a hitch in the future though.

I forgot to answer your last question about how I plan to use it. In the future, I might be towing a small trailer with a motorcycle or ATV, but for now, I will be mainly using it for a bike rack and as a recovery point.

@DanielK Ok nice! If you intend to tow a trailer you will need a wiring harness. For that I recommend the Curt # C43WR. Use a bracket like part # 18144 to mount the plug, or you can just zip tie it to the receiver tube. A lot of folks will just install the wiring at the same time as the hitch, since you will be working in that area anyways. Something like the MaxxTow Tow Strap Loop # MT70029 would be great for recovery purposes.
