What is the Hatch Clearance for the Yakima SkyBox NX Skinny Rooftop Cargo Box?
Updated 12/29/2025 | Published 11/25/2025 >
Question:
Looking at the Yakima skybox nx skinny for my 2024 Jeep compass and trying to figure out hatch clearance. Any advice on that fit? Your guidance says I would need 57 inches from front crossbar to hatch. Yakima says it’s only 50 inches. By my measurements, 57 will not clear, but 50 would be a tight fit. Thanks in advance!

Hello Scott,
I was finding the information a bit confusing myself, so I reached out to my friend at Yakima. She was able to verify that the Yakima SkyBox NX Skinny Rooftop Cargo Box - 12 cu ft - Black Carbonite # Y93QD needs 50" to clear the hatch (please refer to the attached image). The 57" measurement is for the older model.
What are you planning to use the cargo box for? Big upcoming trip, or maybe making room to bring all the presents home?

Hey Scott, how did the fit with the Yakima SkyBox NX Skinny work out on your Jeep Compass? Did the 50-inch clearance give you enough room for the hatch to open smoothly? Your update could make it easier for the next person checking hatch clearance on a similar setup.
