Is TowSmart Trailer Hitch Receiver Easy To Install Myself On 2025 Honda CR-V Or Is Dealership Needed

Updated 11/26/2025 | Published 11/24/2025

Question:

Is this something I could install myself on my 2025 Honda CR-V Touring, or should I have a shop do it? I don't' want the dealer to do it since it will be too much money . thank you, laura

You could definitely handle it if you’re comfortable with basic tools or have a helper, Laura. The TowSmart # TS67ZR install is all bolt-on - no welding or drilling. You’ll lower the exhaust, fishwire bolts through the frame holes, and torque everything to spec around 70–75 ft-lbs.

Most DIYers get it done in about an hour with a floor jack or set of ramps, but a lift is certainly easier.

If you’re planning to tow, add the T-One Wiring Harness # 118741 for your trailer lights and the Ball Mount Kit # 989891 for the hitch balls. What do you plan on using the hitch for, Laura?

Thanks Andrew! Good to know. I’ll probably give it a shot this weekend. I’ve got ramps and a decent tool kit, so I should be ok. Appreciate the help!

@Laura Happy to help! Ramps make the whole job way easier; just take your time with the fishwiring step and keep a hand on the bolts so they don’t slip back into the frame. If you hit any snags, feel free to pop back in with a question. Can’t wait to hear how it goes!
