Is TowSmart Hitch Easy To Install On 2025 Outback Touring?

Updated 11/25/2025 | Published 11/20/2025

Question:

Is this something I can install myself on my 2025 Outback Touring? I’ve never installed a hitch before.

You can probably handle this one, Sarah. If you’re mechanically inclined or know someone who is, the TowSmart # TS34ZR install is very doable. You’ll just lower the exhaust hangers, remove and trim the heat shield, and fishwire four carriage bolts into place. The instructions are clear, and you’ll torque the 7/16" hardware to 70 ft-lbs once everything’s lined up.

Having a friend to help lift it makes things easier, but many handy DIYers have done it in their driveway in under an hour.

If you plan on towing, grab the T-One Wiring Harness # 118467 and Ball Mount Kit # 989891 so you’ll have your trailer lights and hitch balls ready the same day.

Would you like me to walk you through the fishwire step? It’s really the only part that trips people up the first time. And while we don't currently have an install video for this hitch, we do have an install video for the Curt hitch which is identical design and has the same exact install process; I've linked this video on this page.

Thanks, Andrew! That makes me feel a lot better about trying it myself. I’ll rope my brother into helping lift it; sounds like that’s the hardest part. Appreciate the clear breakdown!
