Can Titan Cam Snow Chains # TC3229SCAM be Used Off Road as Well

Updated 12/08/2025 | Published 11/19/2025

Question:

I have a 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax, running BFG TA KO2 sized at 285-65-18. Looking at a good heavy snow / light mud chain and I think Ive narrowed it down to the TC3229S or TC3229SCAM. Im curious as to while the CAM version is only rated for on-road use. Not expecting to be doing in serious off-roading, but there could be instances where I will be on gravel or pasture field setting. Also curious if there may be any clearance issues with this chain when on the front wheels. No lift or leveling kid on the truck. Thx. C.Fisher

Hey C Fisher, the # TC3229SCAM version just has cam tensioners on it which does not make it on road use only. That fit note that it is for on-road use only is not accurate and of the two this would be what I would recommend since they are a bit easier to install and get properly tensioned over the # TC3229S. How many times a year do you normally use tire chains?

Hey C. Fisher, how did the TC3229SCAM chains end up working on your Silverado in snow and light mud? Your feedback could really help others choosing between the cam and non-cam versions.
