Question:

How do you find an aluminum stud in a rv with azdel walls? This would need to be installed into a stud, correct?

Hi Carol; if you can find a stud that's great but it really isn't necessary to install the # LC289373 (white) or # LC289374 (black). The cradle isn't supporting a lot of weight so installing it on the wall in the center of your awning is fine. I asked one of our installers about it and he said he used the thickest self-tapping screws that would fit along with some butyl tape.

If you have a stud finder and still want to aim for one I would give it a shot. Depending on the quality, and how it detects studs, these can still work. You can try the old tapping method as well. If the fasteners are magnetic a magnet can help find them, and some people have had success using an IR thermometer. You can also contact the trailer manufacturer to see if they have a diagram showing the stud locations, some keep do and some don't but its worth a shot.

Hey Carol, how did things go with mounting the awning cradle support on your RV wall? Did the self-tapping screws and butyl tape hold up well? Your update could make it easier for the next person working on the same setup.
