Hitch Extender for Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch on 2022 Nissan Frontier

Updated 10/29/2025 | Published 10/26/2025

Question:

I have a front trailer hitch on my Frontier that I bought from you guys. It is a Draw Tite rated at 9000 lbs. Worked great to haul a bicycle rack but now I am thinking of putting a receiver mounted hitch plate and hitch step together and I think it is going to be to low and too far back to clear the winch. Can I use this extender to bring it out and up? Will be used lightly if at all but was curious if you think this would work. Thanks

Hi Andrew; when you say hitch plate do you mean like a license plate holder or an actual hitch plate for towing? The etrailer High-Low Fixed Adapter # e85ZV is only rated for flat towing. If you wanted it to hold some kind of bracket for a license plate that wouldn't be an issue. However, without any kind of tongue weight rating I can't recommend using it for a step.

The Roadmaster # RM-048-2 has the same measurements and design with a 400 lb tongue weight capacity so that would work. Keep in mind, the use of an adapter will cut the capacity of the hitch by 50% so your vertical load will drop from 500 lbs to 250 lbs on the # 65075.

Not sure why it said hitch plate, I meant a receiver mounted winch mounting plate to mount a 9000 lb winch on. I have read up on it some more and it appears it's not a good idea!
