Recommended Suspension Support for a 2024 Ram 2500 w/ Tire Chains

Updated 11/06/2025 | Published 10/23/2025

Question:

I have a 2024 Ram 2500 4x4, I bought tire chains for the rear tires. Part Number: TC3229SCAM My question is I want to install the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Bag Kit now. My question, Is there enough clearance between the bag mount and the tire chains? In some of the videos for the bags installs its looks close to the tire. Thanks

Hey Jeff, welcome back! The Titan Chain Alloy Snow Chains item # TC3229SCAM are going to stick out close to an inch the way they lie on your Ram's tires. There's not going to be enough clearance to install a set of air bags like the item # AL88289.

With the rear coil spring suspension on your truck, I do not have an air bag or helper spring option that will give you enough clearance. The only solution I have is to upgrade your coil springs with the SuperCoils Custom Suspension Coils item # SSC-52. These have a 2,475 lbs capacity and will not affect your ride height.

What are you needing air bags for?

We are looking at getting a travel trailer toy hauler is the reason for the air bags. The tire chains would be needed for 1 trip a year out to Wyoming for a hunting trip, used on icy gravel road/trail.

@JeffN Right on! Are you doing the install yourself and is your toy hauler going with you to Wyoming? The Air Lift item # AL88289 wouldn't be too difficult to take off and reinstall. You would need to make sure you held onto your factory bump stops though.

@JerredH Doing the install myself. Toy hauler wouldn't not be going to Wyoming. I would be pulling just an enclosed trailer with gear and 2 4 wheelers in it.

@JeffN If it was my truck I would install the Air Lift item # AL88289 and then take them off for the Wyoming trip. You can reinstall them when you get back. The air bags are definitely going to help you with your Toy Hauler and won't negatively affect you during daily driving. I've linked an installation video along with the instructions so you can see how to get them setup.
