Is There A Reason To Go With Glycerin-Free Antifreeze Instead Of Ethanol-Based? RV Boat Winterizing

Published 10/20/2025

Question:

Is there any reason I’d want the glycerin-free antifreeze instead of the ethanol-based one?

Great question, Skip. The # PG36ZR skips ethanol completely, which makes it gentler on seals and fittings over time. Some owners prefer it because it’s non-flammable and doesn’t have much of a scent at all. The ethanol-based # PG56ZR is more budget-friendly and works great for most rigs in more southern climates - especially if you flush each spring.

Are you winterizing an RV or a boat?
