Where Does The Thetford Replacement Cassette Latch Install?

Updated 10/15/2025 | Published 10/06/2025

Question:

Does this lock apply to the flush water door or the actual door where you pull out the cassette? The key looks like what is used for the flush water door. please advise

Hey Van,

This specific lock, # TH63VA, is installed on the external access panel or door of the cassette compartment. What you'll want to do is locate that door and open it, the latch mechanism where this installed should be inside. For easier terms it is on the handle of the cassette tank itself.

What kind of trailer/RV do you have this toilet in?

I have a cassette toilet on a Four Wheel Camper slide in camper. I have doors on the cassette where the dirty water goes and above that is a door that you open to put in water for the flushing process. The keys for each door look different. The key you are showing looks exactly like the key to my flush water door, not the larger door below it where the cassette itself sits. A month ago I ordered a whole new replacement door for the flush water in order to get new keys, that is why I am so familiar with how that key looks. thanks Van

@VanS I gotcha, the # TH63VA should work well for you then. You'll have to let me know how the installation goes.

@NickS Well after "chatting" with Thetford (they are "proud" to announce that their support is now all digital....) I have determined that you are best not to buy this part but to buy the whole Flush Door assembly (which you have to order from Europe as its made over there and I couldn't find any US based sellers). Thetford support was pretty weak including suggesting that anything bought over the internet might not be correct..... After the first support guy finally got someone on who had a clue he told me how to push the old lock out. So I finally got the old lock out of the plastic assembly but getting the new one is apparently beyond difficult. I had already bought the full door assembly and bought this one as a spare lock, so I tried pretty hard to put the new lock into the plastic lock holder and was unsuccessful..... PS no one in support would confirm that the part goes into the flush water door but its pretty much an exact match for that lock.

@VanS I am sorry to hear about that experience, but I do appreciate that feedback. I am going to reach out to them as well and see if I can get some better answers for you cause I understand the frustration there.
