Question:
I have a 1989 Jayco Sportster 7. It has the original Carson CP-10FK-2 Power Pack converter. It runs lights, a Hydro Flame 79/80 Series LP furnace, and a Dometic Refrigerator Model RM2201. I would like the option to charge a couple, either, lead/acid or lithium auxiliary batteries. What converter do you recommend ? Thankyou

Hello Kirk, thanks for reaching out. Our best option for replacing your Carson power pack converter would be replacing the whole power center with the Progressive Dynamics 4000 Series Mini RV Converter w/ Charge Wizard and AC/DC Distribution Panel # PD4045KA. This acts as your power center and converter. It will work with lithium-ion, flooded lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries. The 45 amp output should be plenty for a furnace and refrigerator but it is good to be aware of the power consumption of each appliance.

my converter now has a manual switch to go from 120vac to 12vdc. When I have shore power available I switch to 120v and converter switches power to 12v to run lights and appliances. many times when I camp, I do not have shore power available. The converter runs off the truck battery, which operates all the lights, which I have converted to LEDs. I switch the frig to propane. I have not had trouble draining the truck battery. Will I just run my truck battery power into the 12vdc side? Does this pd4000 have a switch between the shore power and truck battery, or is it automatic? Also, if I chose to add a couple back-up batteries, do they tie in with the truck batteries, or are the two kept separate by the unit? Will I need to isolate my truck battery? and also, it says auxiliary batteries are charged from shore power. Can they also be charged from truck alternator while I am driving, or would that be a separate set-up?
