Recommended 2" Ball Mount to Address a Jerking Sensation When Pulling a Trailer

Updated 09/20/2025 | Published 09/06/2025

Question:

I have a 1500 pickup with a hitch height of 20inch and tow a flat 7000 pound trailer usually loaded with cars or a tractor. The trailer height is around 18inch when level. Wondering if this would sit to close to the ground and If it still will work with the ball in a higher position. Trying to get rid of the jerking and bouncing in the truck. Is there a smaller option like this or would I be better with a weight distribution hitch?

Hey Dan. If you positioned the hitch ball attachment towards the top of the Curt Rebellion XD Ball Mount item # C83WR you'd be level, assuming the 18" measurement you gave me is the height of your trailer's coupler. There is not a shorter version of the Curt Rebellion.

A weight distribution hitch isn't going to address any of the jerking or bouncing you're feeling in your truck. For those issues, I recommend using the Gen-Y Phantom XT Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Torsion Flex item # GY52VB. This ball mount uses rubber cords inside that twist and compress to absorb shock. This is a torsion style ball mount that does a great job of absorbing that jerking feeling you're getting from your trailer.

What kind of ball mount are you currently using and what truck do you have?

Currently have standard 2" drop receiver with anti rattle clamp. Was just concerned that in the higher settings the curt unit may not cushion as good . I have a 2016 Silverado 4x4 with 2" front leveling kit and no other modifications.

@DanH The Curt Rebellion item # C83WR won't lose any of its shock absorbing ability if you mount the hitch ball towards the top.
