Question:
My 2016 Tundra measures 18inch at the top of the hitch receiver opening. My 2023 NuCamp Tab 400 Boondock measures 22inch at the bottom of the coupler when level. Im assuming this wont work. Any torsion or shock absorbing hitch you suggest that will work with about 400-500 lb tongue weight?

Hello Joe,
Thanks for writing in!
Based on the measurements you provided, the Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount # 325-GH-12001 is not the right fit for your setup. Since your Tundra's receiver measures 18 inches from the ground and your TAB 400 Boondock's coupler measures 22 inches when level, you'll need a ball mount that can be used in the rise position. The Glyder is designed to be used in the drop position only.
Instead, I recommend the Gen-Y Phantom XT Adjustable 2-Ball Mount with Torsion Flex # GY52VB. This model can be used in either the rise or drop position, so it gives you the flexibility to get your trailer sitting as level as possible. It also has a tongue weight range that works well with the 400 to 500 pounds you mentioned. I attached an image of it in used on the drop side, you would need to flip it for the rise.
Another reason I like the Phantom XT is its built-in Torsion-Flex system. It helps absorb road shock and reduces the bumps and chucking that get transferred between your truck and trailer, making for a smoother towing experience.
What kind of towing issues are you looking to correct?
You have the perfect size camper in my book. Getting things geared up for the next adventure, what upcoming trip are you looking most forward to?

Thank you, Kate. I'll look into this. We tend to feel some tugging and pushing whenever the camper hits a bump or a different surface than the truck. We enjoy camping around the lower peninsula of Michigan but hope to get up north some more. Thank you for asking, and, again for your help.
