Recommended 7-Way Connector for a 2014 Lexus RX 450h

Updated 08/27/2025 | Published 08/20/2025

Question:

Hello, I own a 2014 Lexus rx 450h, but in EUROPE. I bought it there recently, but Im home now shopping for an after-market wiring harness that is 7-pin, not 4-pin. I know you have one that is custom to my vehicle that is 4-pin, and you also sell the converter from 4 to 7, but I am.worried that my new to me EUROPEAN Lexus is designed only for a 7-pin harness. Thanks for your help!

Hey Nate. In order to install a 7-way connector in your 2014 Lexus RX 450h you'll first need to have a 4-way connector. I don't know what's different wiring and connector wise between a Japanese car made in Canada but sold in the US or Europe so we'll skip the custom fit connectors. If you don't have a 4-way, you'll want the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter item # C59236. This splices into your tail light wiring and sends the signals to a convert so it can activate the correct functions on the trailer connector.

The second harness you will need is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.

You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on your Lexus' battery, the white wire to a suitable ground, and the yellow wire to the accessory circuit. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's battery.

What kind of trailer do you have?

Wow Jerred, great answer! I was able to get a family member to thoroughly scour the Lexus for any hitch-related plugs or wires, and there is nada, zilch, nothing. So you were right on to suggest the splice-in part. Will promptly purchase this. Here is a link to something similar to what I'll end up towing over there. It says its a 13-pin, and I've learned that Europe is now mandating 13-pin upgrades where possible. So my follow-up Q for you is, is there a universal converter from 4 to 13, similar to the one you pointed me to that converts 4 to 7? Or am I looking at a 4 to a 7 to a 13 (or doing some rewiring myself, as I happen to be an electrician)? Any help always much appreciated, thanks again!

@NateF You're welcome! Happy to help! We do not have anything like the European 13 pin connector.
