Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/15/2025

Question:

I am planning on putting a truck camper 2008 Bigfoot in the truck bed for weekend trips. Do I need to go with the Severe Duty or will the Standard duty be sufficient? I will remove the camper after each use. Thanks

Great question Brian!

Timbrens are the most commonly recommended suspension enhancement recommendation when it comes to putting in a truck bed camper. It is very strong and reliable so would be a really great option for you. I looked up your camper and it looks like the dry weight is around 3k lbs so once you add in any gear, water, fuel, and anything else into the camper, part # TGMRCK25D would be what you want to get. It is classified as an extra heavy duty.

Now here comes the however, since the Timbrens are such a thick heavy duty rubber, it will affect your unloaded day-to-day ride. Some bumps, even small ones, may feel jarring and harsh. Timbren doesn't have another option that is at a lower capacity that would make things a little less jarring.

Another option would be to go with airbags, like the Air Lift LoadLifter 7500 XL Air Helper Springs # AL57538. These are are larger in diameter than their standard duty bags so would be best for using with an in bed camper. These will still affect your unloaded ride but not nearly as much as the Timbrens since you can adjust the air pressure, You don't have to have a compressor on the truck as the air fittings are standard and you can use the air at a gas station. However, if you want to add one for the convenience then the Air Lift Load Controller Compressor System for Air Helper Springs- Heavy Duty # AL25854.

If you really want to stick a jounce bumper option we do carry the SumoSprings Rebel part # SSR-203-47-2. They are a tad softer than the Timbrens but not adjustable like the airbags so when unloaded it will have an affect on your day-to-day ride.

If there were any other suspension kits you were looking at and wanted more comparison on let me know in a comment.

Hey Brian, Did you decide to go with the Timbrens, the airbags, or the SumoSprings for your truck camper setup? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others make a choice for their own setups.
