A Safe Ride is a Comfortable Ride

If you're looking for the best tie-downs for your camper, frame-mounted is the way to go. The frame is the most solid part of your entire vehicle, so it just makes sense to attach your camper to something that's not going to warp, bend, or twist. Even more importantly, the camper's center of gravity will sit lower and its weight will be spread across the entire bed. This avoids a top-heavy load perched on top of your bed rails that's liable to sway and get pushed around by crosswinds. The camper's not going to shift or slide around while you drive; it's going to stay put, and your truck is going to handle just like it does without a camper.

Quick Tip: If you have a plastic or spray-in bed liner, it's important that you use a rubber mat under the camper to eliminate any sliding or bouncing.

Don't Ruin Your Truck's Looks

how will tork lift tie downs look on my truck

Frame-mounted tie-downs are also a great pick for preserving your truck's good looks. The brackets install on the frame, tucked nearly flush with the underside of the vehicle. Remove the arms from the brackets when you're not hauling your camper, and the brackets will be barely visible.

Custom Fit, No-Drill Installation

Completely custom to your vehicle, the tie-downs attach to exisiting holes in your frame so that there's little to no drilling and no need for any modifications. Because they're custom, you'll want to use our in-house application guide to make sure you get the exact right model. The tie-downs you need might be different depending on what type of hitch or other accessories you have.

Securing Your Camper

TorkLift Tie Down Example

Once the tie-downs are installed, use a set of turnbuckles (sold separately) to secure the camper to the tie-downs. The shank on each arm has 2 pin holes so you can choose how far out they extend, that way the turnbuckles can reach the anchors on your camper without making contact with your truck. Tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!).

where to put camper tie downs

Make sure the anchor points are offset from the tie-downs instead of lined up with them so that they will hold your camper from multiple angles. This is important for keeping your camper from shifting. Two holes in the attachment plate of the tie-downs let you find the best angle for you camper anchors.

Video Transcript for DIY Install: TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs on your 2024 GMC Sierra 3500

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2024 GMC Sierra 3,500 we're gonna be showing you how to install the torque lift frame-mounted camper tie-downs. But before we get into that, let's just take a couple of minutes, check these out and make sure they're gonna work for you. If you plan on running an in-bed camper, you know you're gonna want a way to secure it and that's where these are gonna come into play. They're gonna give you that attachment point, that way you can hook your turn buckles up and lock everything down. With that said though, these are gonna be just for the front half of the truck.

You'll want all four corners to be locked down. So you can also pick up a set of these for the rear. And I mentioned those turn buckles and if you don't have a set of those already, what those are gonna do is connect to your in bed camper and come down and attach to here and lock everything down. The turn buckles that I really like are also made by torque lift through the fast ones and they're a really good matchup with these particular tie-downs. There are gonna be a couple variations of these depending on what your truck is equipped with so to speak, or what options it has.

So be sure to use the dropdown menu on our fit guide and make sure you have all the information to entered in. That way you get what you need the first time. But just as kind of a reference today, these are on our truck. It has a long bed, it has the step, and it also has a factory hitch and it's not a dually, it has single wheels in the back. We'll give you a couple of measurements here and if you need these to help figure out if they're gonna work with your end bed camper or not, great, because these are adjustable.

So right now we have 'em pushed in to the closest setting and with it like that, I'll just measure from the edge of our step here to the face of this. It's gonna be an inch and a half. And if you need to pull 'em out further, you can. There's just a pin and clip underneath here, the release and there's that second hole and this arm. So, feed that through and it definitely bumps 'em out quite a bit.

Take that same measurement. So in this position, looks like the face of this will be about five and a half inches. In the off season or whenever you're not gonna be using your in bed camper, these can be completely removed, you know that way you don't have stuff hanging out the side of your truck or just pulling that pin out. You know when these are completely removed, you really can't even see the main body, can a little bit. You almost have to look underneath the truck though, but I think that's good because with them off can't even really tell they're there. You know, it almost looks factory. But other than that, at the end of the day, if you're looking for a way to tie down an in bed camper you really can't go wrong with these. They're well built and the fitment was excellent which makes installation a lot easier. You know, while we're on installation, you don't have to drill or modify anything. They pretty much is bolt into place, so just about anyone should be able to do this. But if you'd like to hang around, we'll go ahead and get started on 'em. Now to begin our installation, we're gonna be here working on the side of our truck where we're gonna mount our tie-downs up will be kind of in this area where our bed actually meets the cab. So the first thing we're gonna do, if we go straight up there's gonna be a factory bolt that we need to pull out. You follow that bed support up, there's gonna be this bolt and that's the one we need to remove. And we'll use an 18 millimeter socket to pull it out. And once we have it out we can discard it 'cause we will not be reusing it. (drill whirs) We start to get some of our hardware and our frame. We're gonna be using this hole right here. Take the fish wire, take the coiled end of it, feed it through and you're gonna push it towards the back of the truck. And we're trying to get it to come out of this oval shaped hole right here. Sometimes it helps you know if you put a bend in the wire and kind of make it a little bit easier to guide out. What you're gonna do is take this spacer block, feed that over it, and then take the 716 star washer and 716 bolt, the star washer over it and then thread the bolt onto the fish wire. And I like to push the washer all the way up on the bolt. Push the block through and then the bolt and washer and pull it out like that. For this attachment point, just take another pull wire, put a spacer block over it, and that same bolt and star washer. And we're gonna reverse fish wire into this one. So, and bolt and washer going first. Put that spacer block in and pull it out. Grab this bracket. And these are side specific, so check the diagram the instructions, make sure you have the right one. You know we're over on our passenger side but you can take the end of your pull wires and push 'em through. And then we will just work this up into position here. Line up the holes, until that bolt comes out. And then you want to carefully remove the fish wire. Try not to damage it too bad because you will use it for the other side of our truck and you don't want the bolt to to fall back into the frame. So you kind of apply some pressure that bolt if you need to. And then you can put on a flat washer, a split lock washer and a hex nut. We'll get this started hand tight and do the same exact thing for our other attachment point. Grab the support bracket where it bends up, it's actually gonna line up with that factory bolt that we removed earlier. And then you can take what we're gonna use to secure that is the M12 bolt and flat washer. So we'll get this lined on up here, lined up and start it hand tight. The other end of our support bracket's gonna have a hole in it and that's gonna line up with that hole here on this bracket. And to secure that you'll take the half inch bolt, the flat washer, put that through and on the backside where the bolt comes out. So put on the split lock washer and the hex nut. We'll get it started in tight. Now that we have all of our hardware in place and in tight, we can snug it down and we want to do this in a particular order or sequence. So we'll first start with this bolt way up here. We're gonna use a 19 millimeter to run it down. The next bolt you wanna do is the half inch one. So three quarter inch socket and wrench to smug this up. (drill whirs) And last but not least, you can do the two bolts here coming through our frame rail. And with those you can use an 11/16. (drill whirs) Now you wanna come back with a torque wrench and tighten the hardware down to the specs and the instructions following that same sequence that we used to snuck them all up. Once that side is all torque down, you can simply repeat that exact same process over here on the other side of your truck. And if you're ready to use 'em, you can always just take the arms and slide them into position. If not, not a big deal. You can always leave these out. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the torque lift, a frame mounted camper tie downs on the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500.

  • Camper Tie-Downs for 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 Long Bed Dually
Hey Scott! The # TL86NR is designed to fit the 6-3/4' bed. Do you have running boards? What kind of hitch do you have? If you have no running boards or cab length running boards with a factory or TorkLift hitch you need the # TL94PR. If you have no running boards or cab length only running boards and a non-Torklift aftermarket hitch you need the # TL64QV instead. You will also need turnbuckles like the TorkLift Locking FastGun # TLS9529-2-LK.
