An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Front and Rear Suspension Enhancement Systems Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Timbren line of suspension enhancement systems. Any time that we add weight to our vehicle, it's going to put a lot of strain and stress on the suspension, especially if we're towing a heavy camper, trailer, or we have a heavy load in the back.Tends to have the back end squat down, which again, it's going to put that strain and stress on the rear suspension because not only are we asking it to hold up the weight of the vehicle, but everything else that we add on to it. Which that can arise a lot of different issues. The front end is going to be getting pulled off, which will misalign our headlights, and our tires won't have as much contact, so our steering and braking is going to be diminished. But tat;s where timbrens are going to come into play. They're going to provide us that extra support so that when we do have those heavy loads, the back end doesn't sag down quite as much, and it's not putting so much stress on the back end. By doing that, the front end's not going to rise up, which means our headlights will be in line and our tires will have the correct amount of contact and pressure, so our braking and steering isn't affected.

And they're going to do that all while making our ride more comfortable with that extra load. Our timbrens are going to provide us the support we need by replacing our factory jump stops and mounting in between the frame and the axle. Now, yours may look different, so you want to double check inaudible 00:01:20 fit guide for your specific application. Now, each one of our timbrens is going to feature a steel bracket. They're all going to have black, powder coat finish on them to resist that rust and corrosion or any other kind of chemicals that may be on the road. They're going to have a hollow, rubber ayon 00:01:36 spring that's going to take a lot of that pressure and strain off of the rear suspension.Whenever we do load our vehicle down, the space between our frame and our axle is going to get smaller. That's where our spring is going to make contact with the axle, and it's going to start compressing.

Now, they are progressively rated, so if we have a small load or a light load, it's going to have a little soft engagement. But the further it gets compressed, the harder and stiffer it becomes, giving us the support we need with those heavy loads. And since they are rubber, they're going to have a lot of give to them, which means they're going to give us the support we need. But at the same time, they're going to give us some more cushion and absorb some of the road shock as we drive. And since the rear ones here aren't in constant contact with our aXle, it is going to provide us the same ride quality when it's unloaded. Our timbrens are going to work independently from each other from side to side. That way, if we have an off center load, it will help compensate for that, but at the same time, if we take an evasive maneuver or a really sharp turn, this is going to help reduce that body roll and some of that sway feeling that we get going on when we have a lot of added weight. Our timbrens for the rear are going to be a good enhancement for any time you're going to be adding weight to the back of your vehicle, whether it be a heavy trailer, a large load in the back or any other situation where you're adding a lot of weight to the back of your vehicle. Now, timbrens on the front are going to be a little bit different.

They're going to provide us that load-leveling support and make sure the front end doesn't get pushed down too far. However, these typically are going to be in contact all the time, which means it's going to give us that support and help reduce on that body roll all the time, all while absorbing that road shock, giving us a smoother ride. Now, some situations where you'd want that extra support on the front of the vehicle to keep it from getting pushed down too much would be if you have a snow plow or winch, if you flat-tow your vehicle, or if you have any other heavy accessory on the front. This is going to make sure that front end stays where it should be, and again, making sure our tires, braking and steering acts how they should. When comparing the timbrens to other suspension enhancement options like airbags, these are going to be a lot easier to install because we're not going to have to worry about running lines, maintaining air pressure, putting in switches or compressors or any of that. Once these are installed, these are going to be completely maintenance free. However, airbags are going to provide us with a lot more adjustability, whereas our timbrens are not going to have that. That'll finish up your look at the timbrens suspension enhancement systems..

After a 3000 mile trip with a 42' fifth wheel on a 2016 Chevrolet single rear wheel short bed 3500HD, I will say they made a difference. They took some of the bounce and the side to side rocking out of the truck. I would definitely put them on my next truck as well. 667565

I purchased a used pickup without any jounce bumpers. I ordered these to provide more support rather than going back with stock ones. I pull a 5th wheel and these keep the truck level with less bouncing around and bottoming out when towing. When I'm not towing they sit about an inch or inch and a half about the stops so they do not negatively impact the ride quality. They work as advertised and I'm pleased with them. 653123

this is the second set of Timbren springs I have purchased, the first set was on my Ford Raptor, they took all of the sag and sway out of pulling my boat. I have this set on my 2015 GMC Denali 2500HD, I pull a 42 ft. 5th wheel and the Timbren's take all of the sag and sway out, these are in my opinion the best product I have purchased for my truck. 683687

Haven't towed the 5th wheel trailer yet, but installation was fairly easy. So far, the ride unloaded hasn't changed, but I'm sure it will be great with the trailer. These are serious parts and appear to high quality. 124219

After having towed our fifth wheel trailer over 15,000 miles with the Timbrens, I can say they are great. The truck stays level and the trailer tows great. This is much better than having to mess with air bags.

I really like them a lot. I pull a heavy fifth wheel on a 3/4 ton truck. I'm right at the payload limit and thes seem to keep the truck level. The ride is great loaded or unloaded. I recommend them over air bags in my case. 409480

Excellent I took them off my 3/4 ton and put them on my 1 ton as they were the same stock . I dont think I installed them properly as one came off. I called Timbren and explained what happened and they sent me a new pair. Awesome customer service from Timbren.

I had bought these timbrens and the weight safe hitch with the 8” drop from etrailer. I was quite please by both products. Installation of the timbrens was very easy, only took 30-40 minutes to change out bump stops in my garage.I hauled a Uhaul trailer with a Jeep over 300 miles, with no issues. The timbrens worked great, no issues with the rife. And I really like the weight safe hitch. I recommend checking out these two products from etrailer. Thanks etrailer. 642864

2015 Chevrolet Silverado

I bought Timbrens to install on my 2015 Silverado 2500HD truck, which I use to haul our 5th wheel. I had a set of airbags on my old GMC and they worked well, however, they were a concern when it came to maintenance. I saw a review and recommendation for Timbrens and thought they were a great alternative to having airbags installed. I read the instructions and can see no problems with installing them myself - thereby not only saving in the cost over the airbags, but also not having to pay anyone to install the Timbrens. Everything I have read about them makes me feel very good. I don't see the truck lowering with the 5th wheel attached, but having the Timbrens installed will take away any worries with rough roads. 613453

Great product, easy to install with NO tools! Just remove the old bump stops and push and twist the Timbren into the socket. Compared to helper springs or replacing leaf springs taking hours, this installation can be done in minutes. Not only does the truck carry a load more level, it helps greatly in towing trailers by eliminating some of the suspension roll and bouncing. All of our 3/4-1 ton trucks have these installed, we have only had one issue with a severely overloaded 2010 truck driving off road and broke one off, Timbren customer service replaced it for free! 306739

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

I just purchased a 2018 Chevrolet 3500 drw to replace my 2015 truck that was identical. I had air bags in my previous truck but decided to give the Timbren rear enhancement system a try. I watched the video about them as well as the install and decided that for the price as well as the ease of installation that I would give them a try. my only reason for using anything on the rear suspension is to eliminate the added "squat" that these trucks are known for. Ordering was simple, I called with a question and spoke to Angela, not only did she cheerfully answer my question, but also offered to place the order for me. I took her up on the offer and after completing the call I had an order confirmation email, and within 30 minutes I had a shipment confirmation email. I have ordered from Etrailer a few times and I must say that they are one of a few companies that I never worry about having a bad experience, they are always on top of their game. I received the product within 5 days using the free shipping. I installed them on Saturday, and to my surprise it was as easy as the video shows, within 20 minutes I had both sides installed and was cleaned up and hooking to the trailer. I was thrilled when I hooked up and checked the level on my trailer to find out that I was sitting exactly at the height that I did with 50#'s of air in the airbags on my other truck. I jump in and take a run around the block, making sure I hit a railroad crossing and I will say I am very pleased. Great job Timbren, Angela and Etrailer !! 499444

A really good product. Installed easily. Highly recommend you restake them so they are less apt to vibrate off. They easily carry my 2600 lb camper and remove most of the weight from the overload springs. They also assist greatly in preventing side to side swaying and help to keep the camper upright while cornering. 528107

This rating of 4 stars is because I have not put a load on my truck to test the drive loaded. I have driven it unloaded. The unloaded ride is the same as original. Installation was easy, I looked at the etailer video perfect procedure. It took 30 minutes tops. Fit perfect, easy installation, speedy delivery. 445995

I did 8,400 miles summer with a 3900 lbs dry weight truck/camper on the truck. The Springs preformed as good as I hoped they would. I definitely would recommend them for this application.

The only reason I gave a 4 star to suspension product is because they are a bit over needed support. I haul a truck camper and it weights around 2800 lbs. when loaded. My suspension only drops a couple inches. The ride is a little stiff, but I feel safe with very little sway. Weight transfer goes forward so steering is the sway. it would seem a shorter product would work better. A inch doesn't much but it might work better. 523348

I bought these for a 2012 GMC 2500 Duramax. The installation for these was much easier than I anticipated (I can't say the same for the front suspension system.) Just lift up your truck, pry out the stock bumper stops, line up the Timbren springs with a 2x4 underneath, and lower the truck. The weight of the bed/frame is enough to get the Timbren spring to seat correctly. This took me less than 10 minutes. Ride quality seems to have improved as big bumps on the road are less rough. These keep the truck from sagging underneath the weight from a trailer, too, though I didn't have much problem with that to begin. Overall, I like this addition. Easy. 48427

Fast shipping and exactly what I wanted. Works great pulling a camper. Took the wiggle out of rear end on highway when changing lanes. Anyone with a camper should try these. Performs as advertised. We pull a 5th. wheel travel trailer. Very little bed drop. Applicable to a 2015 GMC 2500. Had a problem finding a shop to install. So, installed my self which was rather simple and easy. Took about 30-45 minutes. Could do it in 20 minutes now. Tools you should have ready. Large screw driver, 2, 6 inch or so length of 2x4, hydraulic jack to lift truck bed. Pry the old pieces out, place both units in position, lift bed enough to put 2x4 beneath. Drop bed and compression will fit into place. Lift bed, remove 2x4, drop bed, You are done. 562908

These beauties are GREAT! I have had air bags before which most know the issues with them. These make my truck stay level and even helped with the bouncing of the rear better then air bags. I would recommend them to those who don't want to mess with air bags and they will last longer. Very easy to install. Took me less than 15 minutes to do both sides. 362615

When I purchased these stops I had in mind that they would help with loads on my 2500HD. I towed a Trailer at 6800lbs. With the stops it help with load droop and ride stability. Now I have a 10,000lbs fifth wheel and the stops have preformed with wonderful results. Im very glad I when this way for load assist. I do recommend this product.

Fast delivery and easy installation on my 2017 GMC 2500. At a glance it didn’t appear that I needed any support however, they level and stabilize my 2400 lb truck camper with the added weight of water and tounge weight from my boat trailer, It also handles better in wind. I like Timbrens better than air bags as there is no air to leak or install. I had timbrens on 2 other trucks and liked them also. 505476

I purchased these for my GMC 2500HD diesel pickup to beef up the sag when pulling my 5th wheel camper. They were a little difficult to install only because all I had was a floor jack. But I did eventually get them in and they work well. I would advise them for anyone pulling a heavy load. 721555

These are one of the best products ever! Simple, effective and a reasonable price. They are carefree, invisible when unloaded and very easy to install yourself. I tow a 37ft 12,500lb 5th wheel with my 2018 2500HD. Though my truck already handled the load well, these make the ride more stable and controlled. Lifts the rear up about 1.5 inches as well as keeps things centered from left to right. What's most important when towing is keeping the steer axle on the road. Though I recommend them for any towing configuration; for those of you that push the limits, these are a must have. Brilliant product! Thanks Timbren for the magic bullet! 708124

Just put these on my 2015 duramax, hooked up to the camper and off I went. Great product, easy installation. Would always recommend these, great alternative to the airbags. 683459

I purchased a set these for my 2015 Silverado HD and they worked great. Now I installed them on my new 2019 Silverado HD. Great product. 673861

2016 GMC Sierra

These are literally maintenance free, just install in a few minutes and never worry about them. Although, unloaded and going over a big bump you do feel them hit (b/c at this point they are just a longer jounce bumper). I'm considering moving to air bags, but for now, these work really well on my 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.0L SLT Crew 6.0L pulling a 40' KZ Sportsmen 10k 5th wheel. 654761

Great product. Keeps the truck level when towing my fifth wheel. When not towing, your truck rides normal. Very easy to install. 648010

What an amazing product! Installed in less than 20 minutes. There is no change in ride quality with the truck empty. When towing my 16,000 lb trailer the truck handles much better and doesn’t sag. 643644

Do you have a question about this Vehicle Suspension?

  • Rear Suspension Helper Springs for a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • Hello, I will be happy to help you select some helper springs to improve the ride and level out the truck when you are towing. Timbren springs are an easy install but they will make the ride stiffer when you are not towing. The similar SumoSprings Solo # SSR-207-47 will also level out the truck but will not be as stiff when not towing compared to the Timbren springs. Another option to consider is Roadmaster Active Suspension # RAS3611-HD. Installation is easy with this kit as...

  • Comparing Timbren Rear Helper Springs for a 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500
  • Timbren springs # TGMRTT35D have an 8,000 pound capacity and are designed for sever service vehicles such as tow trucks. The springs are also a different design. Timbren springs # TGMRCK25D are rated for 8,600 pounds but are for regular pickup models of the 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500HD.

  • Difference Between Timbren Jounce Springs for 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
  • The biggest difference between the two parts is that the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRCK25D is a double-convoluted spring while the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRTT35D are single-convoluted springs. The single-convoluted springs are designed for service vehicles like tow trucks because they have less travel - they won't compress as much - than double-convoluted springs, making them more rigid for heavier-duty work. Due to this I highly recommend...

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
  • For your 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD the best suspension enhancement kit we have is the SumoSprings Rebel part # SSR-203-47-2. I recommend these over the Timbrens like the part # TGMRCK25D that fit your truck as the SumoSprings give you a much better unloaded ride quality than the Timbrens. I attached an install video for this kit for you to check out as well.

  • Comparing Timbren TGMRCK25D or TGMRTT35D Rear Axle Jounce Springs for 2015 Silverado 2500
  • Timbren rear-axle jounce spring kit # TGMRTT35D is intended for severe service vehicles such as tow trucks so for your towing/cargo application you will use kit # TGMRCK25D. This no-drill install is suitable for heavy-duty trucks like your 2500 whether or not it has factory top overload springs. Installation instructions and a video are linked for your reference.

  • Comparing Timbren SES Jounce-Style Springs for a 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500
  • There are 3 different Timbren jounce-style springs that fit your 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 and they are all for different applications. Part # TGMFK25D is for your front suspension. Part # TGMRCK25D is for standard duty pickups that do occasional towing. Part # TGMRTT35D is for heavy duty applications like severe service vehicles like tow trucks. All of these are compatible with 2WD or 4WD pickups. I have attached some videos and the installation instructions for you to reference.

  • Rear Helper Springs for a 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 Towing 5th Wheel and Gooseneck Trailers
  • Timbren springs # TGMRCK25D have a Limited lifetime warranty and satisfaction is guaranteed. Take a look at the very last line on page 2 of the instructions I have linked for you. Considering your application I would not recommend Timbren springs as the best option. Times when you are not towing will not compress the springs and you will have a stiffer ride. Air bags such as # F2596 are a better option for towing 5th wheel and gooseneck trailers since you can adjust them by adding or...

  • Comparing Roadmaster RAS, Timbrens, and SumoSprings for a 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
  • The best fit and forget systems we have for your 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD are going to be between the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TGMRCK25D and the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-203-47-2. These systems both dampen the load placed on the vehicle and allow the factory suspension to still work accordingly whereas the Roadmaster Active Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kits work by preloading the factory suspension with no dampening...

  • Why is Truck Fifth Wheel Towing Capacity Much Higher than Cargo Capacity
  • Fifth wheel towing capacities are different from cargo weight capacities. The reason is mainly that a fifth wheel hitch essentially attaches to the frame of the truck (the strongest part of it), and the cargo capacity is more related to the weight capacity of the truck's bed. Your truck would have no problem with the weight of your fifth wheel trailer plus the cargo you mentioned adding.

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement Helper Springs for a 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 Towing 5th Wheel Trailer
  • Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRCK25D will prevent bottoming out but it stiffens up the suspension so some of those bumps may be more jarring than before. And the unloaded/not towing ride will feel stiffer as well. Ideally to soften things up a little you would go with air springs such as # F2596. This will allow you to adjust how stiff or soft the ride is. This model air spring is compatible with 5th wheel hitch frame brackets as well. I have linked a video showing...

  • Can Spacers be Added to Timbren Helper Springs for a Lifted 2012 Chevy Silverado
  • Timbren does have spacers, # A25723-90AH00, that you could use. You would need a total of 4 of them since each is 1 inch tall and because you have a 2 inch lift. I have included a couple of video links for you. One is an installation of kit # TGMRCK25D. The other is an installation that uses the spacers.

  • Comparing Timbren Helper Springs for a 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500
  • Timbren helper springs # TGMRCK25D and # TGMRTT35D have different designs. The springs for kit # TGMRCK25D are double-convoluted. For optimal balance between softness and toughness, fabricators choose the double-convoluted rubber spring. Taller than the single donuts, these springs are engineered to deliver superior ride quality and significant load capacity. The springs in kit # TGMRTT35D are single-convoluted. When space is limited or extra stability is required, fabricators and engineers...

  • Timbren Weight Ratings Explained, Recommendation for 2015 GMC Sierra 3500

You should note that Timbrens do not actually increase the towing capacity of the vehicle they are installed on. They will provide additional support so that the vehicle can carry it's current capacity in a safer, more level way. I attached a help article on Timbrens for you to check out as well. These...

  • Once installed, the double convoluted springs from the Timbren SES Kit, # TGMRCK25D, will sit 5-3/16 inches below the jounce bumper holder on the frame. The outer diameter of these springs is 4-5/16 inches. The single convoluted springs from the Timbren SES Kit, # TGMRTT35D, are only 3-9/16 inches tall, but this kit also includes a 1 inch spacer, so it will sit 4-9/16 inches below the jounce bumper holder on the frame (see photos). The outer diameter of these springs is 4-1/4 inches.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500
  • For your 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 the suspension enhancement I recommend is the Timbren kit part # TGMRCK25D because it's compatible with fifth wheel rail kits like you have, it can provide up to an additional 8,600 lbs of support, and unlike air bag kits you never have to mess with air pressure or compressors. Basically you just install the kit and never have to worry or think about it again.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with Truck Bed Camper
  • For your 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 the Timbren kit part # TGMRCK25D is a confirmed fit and would work well. For in bed campers most people really like the SuperSprings like the part # SSA13MXKT as this provides additional support but also acts as an anti-sway bar which helps with top heavy truck bed campers.

  • Timbren or SumoSprings Recommendation for a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500
  • Because the Timbrens like part # TGMRCK25D that you referenced have a reputation as having kind of a harsh unloaded ride quality I would recommend the SumoSprings part # SSR-207-47 since you will get the same support without as harsh of a ride when the vehicle is unloaded. I attached an FAQ on Timbrens for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement For 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Towing A Fifth Wheel
  • The tongue weight of a trailer can cause the ride to be uncomfortable at times. If everything is adjusted properly on the fifth wheel hitch and trailer you can help reduce the road shock and loping as you called it by using suspension enhancement. If your fifth wheel is installed correctly you should not need to move it forward as you mentioned. I recommend installing a Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System like part # TGMRCK25D on your Silverado 3500. This system will not effect...

  • Does Using an Offset Gooseneck Ball Change where the Pin Weight is Carried in the Truck Bed
  • If you were to use the 4 inch offset ball # BWGNXA4085 the pin weight on the ball will not be changed. What will change is where the weight is carried on the truck. Using the offset ball will put more weight 4 inches back from the center of the gooseneck ball hole in the truck bed. This may or may not affect the truck. Some things that could happen include reduced steering and braking and headlights angled upward. If the weight is far enough behind the rear axle it can lift the front...

This is a confirmed fit for your truck and will provide you with additional support when towing. I attached an install video for this kit for you to check out as well.
