Is 2022 RAV4 Hitch From Trailer Mate Strong Enough For 4 Bike Rack?
Published 08/14/2025 >
Question:
Is this hitch strong enough to handle a fully loaded 4-bike rack on my 2022 RAV4 Hybrid, or should I look at something heavier duty?

Ben, the Trailer Mate’s # TMT54FR 350-lb tongue weight rating is plenty for most 4-bike racks, provided you’re not overloading with heavy 100lb e-bikes. Standard adult or kids’ bikes usually fall well within the limit, and even a couple ebikes too. Just weigh your rack and bikes to be sure - tongue weight is the hitch’s “pressure down” limit. Another thing to mention is that the vehicle also has a tongue weight limit that can't be exceeded so I'd check your RAV's owner's manual. Also, upgrading to a higher rated hitch won't help as your vehicle likely doesn't have more tongue weight capacity than this hitch.
What kind of bikes are we talking - road, mountain, or e-bikes?
Fellow readers, have you pushed a hitch close to its capacity? Share what worked and what didn’t so Ben and others can plan smart. :)
