Features to know about

Carry Bikes, Cargo, and Trailers with Confidence: Class III, 2" Receiver

With a 3,500-lb maximum gross trailer weight and 350-lb tongue weight, this hitch is built for everyday towing and hauling. The standard 2" receiver works with bike racks, cargo carriers, and ball mounts, so you can haul your bikes to the trail or tow a small trailer for weekend projects. It’s strong enough for consistent use without being overbuilt for light-duty work.

Install It Yourself Without the Hassle: Bolt-On Design, No Drilling Required

This hitch bolts straight to the frame using the included hardware and the tools most folks already own. There’s no drilling, welding, or bumper trimming involved. You remove a tie-down bracket and line it up with factory holes for a clean fit. Even if you’re installing it solo, a jack or a set of blocks can make it an easy afternoon job in the driveway.

Keep It Looking Good Season After Season: Dual Coating Blocks Rust and Road Grime

The steel frame is protected by a durable black powder coat layered over an A-coat finish that seals out moisture and salt. This two-layer protection helps the hitch stand up to winter road spray and muddy backroads alike. A quick rinse after salty drives keeps it looking sharp and ready for the next trip.

Built Strong and Tested Safe: Meets SAE J684 Standards

This hitch isn’t just rated—it’s tested to meet SAE J684 standards for trailer hitches, covering strength, performance, and structural integrity. Welded steel construction gives it reliable toughness you can count on every time you load up your gear or tow a trailer down the road.

Great! I love it. It has every bell and whistle I’ve needed. Love the security features. I’m a female rider in my 70’s and manage the product alone, from installation to removal. Highly recommend!

by:

Good product, good pricing and excellent delivery time.

by:

Easy to install. Only took me by myself 30 minutes.

by:

Fit perfectly, easy install in less than an hour and looks great

by:

My item was delivered fast and product fit perfectly. Would definitely buy again here.

by:

Very easy to install.

by:

Fit was spot on...great fit. Took 30 minutes and minimal tools to install

by:

Hard to compete with Amazon but wow… that was fast and easy.

by:

Easy install on 2024 RAV4 Hybrid. Just 4 bolts, the passenger side needs a 19mm rachet wrench to tighten. Took about an hour by myself.

by:

I messed up the 1st order. etrailer jumped right in and canceled the order and got me what I needed on time.

by:

Received in good time. Installed as described.
Bunch of videos are helpful so you know what you’re getting into.

by:

Haven't installed yet but very well made. Thus is my third hitch from E-trailer. Love their service.

by:

Purchased this hitch for a 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid XLE. The hitch came in a couple of days. I am a beginner to car work, however, I rented the floor jack, jack stand, 19mm socket wrench, torque wrench, 19mm crowsfoot attachment from a local tool library to perform install myself. Install was straightforward. It helped greatly to lower the exhaust out of the way and have a second person to hold the hitch in place when attaching the bolts. Install video was very helpful. Fit great! Plan to use it for a bike or flat shelf rack.

by:

The tow hitch looks great, easy installation took me about 40 minutes without putting the muffler down. The only downside was that it was harder to torque the bolts because there was not a lot of space.

by:

Great receiver hitch for the price. Fit perfectly

by:

I installed this on a 2023 Rav4 Prime. Fit perfectly and only took about half an hour to install. You do need to remove the passenger side tiedown bracket if your car still has it but that was my only issue in installation. The only problem I have with it is that my hitch fits a little sloppy and this does not have the extra ring around the end of it making it impossible for me to use my CURT 22325 No-Tool Anti-Rattle Hitch Clamp with it. I might weld a piece on it so I can use the clamp.

by:

Well built and fairly easy to install. I had to drop my exhaust (muffler) but not too much trouble in that. The suggested torque rating was over 80inch lbs; I only went to 40-50, as I’m only going to be carrying a bicycle rack with 2 bikes. Felt like that high torque would strip the bolts The receiver hangs a bit low for my liking but in order to clear some bumper plastic, needed to.

  • Comparing Trailer Mate Trailer Hitch To Curt and B&W For 2019 Toyota RAV4 LE
Hey Adrian! The higher capacity for the B&W # BW47BR and Curt # C77MJ comes from the construction. The B&W hitch weighs 45 lbs and then the Curt and Trailer Mate # TMT54FR both weigh 32 lbs. The Trailer Mate does sit just a tad higher compared to the others. The distance from the gound to the top inside of the receiver tube is 12". The same measurement is 11-3/4" for the B&W hitch and then 11-1/2" for the Curt. The Trailer Mate Hitch # TMT54FR is a budget friendly option that is actually...

  • Is There A Video Of The Trailer Mate TMT54FR Being Installed On A 2021 Toyota RAV4?
Hi Mykal! Though I can say the Trailer Mate Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # TMT54FR will fit your 2021 Toyota RAV4, we haven't had the chance to do an install with one for this hitch yet. However, we did recently shoot one with the Blue Ox # BLU43UR that is nearly identical to the Trailer Mate, so I included that video. It's only four bolts for the install, so it is on the short side. : ) What are you planning on using the hitch for?

  • Comparing Trailer Mate Hitches To EcoHitch And etrailer For 2024 RAV4 Prime
Dana, it comes down to budget, capacity needs, and clearance when looking at hitch options for your 2024 RAV4 Prime. The Trailer Mate 2" Hitch # TMT54FR is the most affordable of the bunch and still gives you a clean, concealed look with 3,500 lbs towing and 350 lbs tongue weight, ideal for bike racks, cargo carriers, and small trailers. The etrailer hitch # e84ZV bumps tongue weight to 675 lbs and has a slightly tougher finish, while EcoHitch # EH97FR goes up to 750 lbs and tucks in...

  • Will Trailer Mate Hitch On 2024 RAV4 XLE Hybrid Block Hands Free Trunk Sensor?
Kyle, with most aftermarket hitches, including the Trailer Mate # TMT54FR, the center “kick” spot might get fussier, but you can still trigger the liftgate by kicking slightly to the left or right of the receiver. It’s a quick adjustment you’ll get used to after a couple tries. Do you use the hands-free feature often, or is it more of a nice-to-have for you? And for anyone else running a RAV4 with a hitch, where’s your magic sensor spot now? Sharing your tips could save Kyle and others...

  • Ground Clearance Concerns - Will Hitch And Bike Rack Scrape On Driveway With 2025 RAV4 Prime
Hannah, you’re in good shape here. The Trailer Mate # TMT54FR for your 2025 RAV4 Prime sits up close to the bumper with a concealed cross tube, so you keep solid ground clearance, comparable to many of the common hitches for this vehicle. This receiver opening has a distance of about 10-1/4" inches from the very bottom of the receiver tube to the ground. Unless your driveway has a sharp breakover, you shouldn’t be scraping. If you want reassurance, check your bike rack’s shank rise and...

  • How Difficult Is Installing Hitch By Yourself On 2020 Toyota RAV4?
Mark, the Trailer Mate 2" Hitch # TMT54FR is one of the simpler installs you’ll find. You’ll peel back a couple of stickers to access the factory weld nuts, possibly remove the passenger-side tie-down loop, and bolt the hitch up with the supplied hardware. No drilling, no trimming, and no welding. I've attached a demo video of the curt hitch install process, which is going to be the same exact install for the Trailer Mate since it's made by Curt. If you have a helper or a floor jack to...

  • Is 2022 RAV4 Hitch From Trailer Mate Strong Enough For 4 Bike Rack?
Ben, the Trailer Mate’s # TMT54FR 350-lb tongue weight rating is plenty for most 4-bike racks, provided you’re not overloading with heavy 100lb e-bikes. Standard adult or kids’ bikes usually fall well within the limit, and even a couple ebikes too. Just weigh your rack and bikes to be sure - tongue weight is the hitch’s “pressure down” limit. Another thing to mention is that the vehicle also has a tongue weight limit that can't be exceeded so I'd check your RAV's owner's manual. Also, upgrading...

  • How Does Trailer Mate Hitches By Curt Hold Up In Northern Winters With Road Salt?
Ron, the Trailer Mate Trailer Hitch Receiver 2" # TMT54FR by Curt has a two-layer defense: a durable powder coat over a liquid A-coat that seals inside and out. That layered protection resists moisture, salt, and road grime well. Like any hitch, it’s smart to rinse it after salty drives and touch up chips promptly. Are you planning to keep the hitch on year-round or swap it seasonally? Readers in snowy states, how’s your hitch holding up after a few winters? Your feedback could give Ron...

  • Can 2023 RAV4 Tow A 1,200lb Trailer? What Is The Towing Capacity?
Sharon, you’re well within the Trailer Mate’s # TMT54FR 3,500-lb towing and 350-lb tongue weight ratings. Keep in mind the RAV4 towing capacities range anywhere from 1500-3500 lbs based on trim and packages, so you'll want to check your owner's manual or check with Toyota so you don't overload your RAV! All that being said, you will have a great setup for your 1,200-lb trailer setup. It’s marketed as a budget-friendly option for everyday gear, but it’s still fully capable of light towing...

  • Does Trailer Mate 2" Receiver Need Curt Stabilizing Strap For Bike Rack On 2025 Toyota RAV4?
Chris, Curt recommends using a stabilizing strap for all non-trailer loads on some class 1 1-1/4" receivers, but for the 2" receivers like the Trailer Mate # TMT54FR, you won't need to worry about that strap. What type of bike rack do you have? If you don't have one, let me know and I'll find one that suits your needs. The good thing about the 2" receiver is that it's compatible with many more accessories than a 1-1/4" receiver, and it can hold more weight. To everyone else reading this,...

  • Does Trailer Mate Hitch Install Affect Spare Tire On 2019 RAV4 Adventure ?
Luke, no interference at all. The Trailer Mate # TMT54FR is designed for a direct fit with your spare in place. Your spare is actually under the cargo area of your trunk. The only thing you’ll remove is the passenger-side tie-down bracket, which isn’t used once the hitch is installed. Do you plan to use it mainly for towing, or will it be a dedicated bike or cargo rack mount? And for our Adventure trim owners out there - what do you like to put on the hitch of your RAVs?

Amy, absolutely. Just keep the combined weight of the carrier and your totes under the 350-lb tongue weight limit of the Trailer Mate 2" Hitch Receiver # TMT54FR. You'll also want to check the max tongue weight of your RAV4 which can be found in the owner's manual. Load heavier items toward the vehicle to keep the carrier balanced, and if the totes block your tail lights, an auxiliary light kit plugged into a 4-way harness is a smart add-on. Do you already have a carrier, or are you shopping...
