Question:
Hi I need very specific help on a trailer addition. I need someone to read this and have knowledge and give me correct info. Im looking at a 2022 Jeep Grand cherokee, L model. It has the trailer prep package 22e ,which includes leveling headlights and leveling rear and a zoom hitch and a full size spare. There is no physical hitch, or plugs for lights, etc. What am I looking to add beyond the physical metal hitch? Should this car have a plug somewhere under the dash, and be pre-wired to add the seven pin on the rear ,and to add my brake controller? Please educate me where I go from this, and if it will work like Factory ..and send a couple links to what I need for harnesses, as I think they maybe plug in behind the tail lights? I think I only want Mopar brand or Curt. Please tell me what you think and I appreciate your input.

Hey Tim, thanks for reaching out! I can tell you've really been putting a lot of thought into this purchase!
I'll list out the parts I recommend picking up, and then I'll explain why further down below:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C96NR
- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK39VR
- Wiring Upgrade Kit # ETBC7
- No-Drill Bracket # C83DR
- Curt Echo Under-Dash # C46GV
The Curt hitch is a great choice and will serve you well, but you'll need to make sure your spare only has an 18" wheel to ensure the spare will fit with the hitch in place. Tekonsha makes the most reliable wiring by far which is why I recommend their kit over the Curt wiring.
The no-drill bracket and the upgrade kit gives you everything you need to have a fully functional 7-Way secured near the hitch receiver.
I also threw the Curt Echo Under-Dash in there as a brake controller option. This is one of my favorites because it connects to the pre-existing plug under your dash and then the control unit remains hidden behind your dash fascia. You then control the settings via an app on your phone.
I'm going to be 100% honest with you and say that I'm not entirely sure what you'll find as far as wiring goes on your 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. From what I gathered online, it sounds like the tow/prep package on your Jeep includes things that make it more efficient for towing (like a larger transmission cooler) and some wiring plugs, but not much more than that.
Are you planning on installing everything on your own, or having a shop do it for you? And do you already have a ball mount?

Thanks Jon. I already have all the balls and hitches, just need to start with the receiver, which I pretty much understand taking all the panels and bumper off. It was just the electrical, that held it up. Great information. Yes, I'll be doing this myself. Having a trailer prep package, I'm not really sure what is waiting me, for the wiring either? It looks like it just preps you for other things for towing, except wiring? Seems like I might find out? I appreciate your information. Tim
