2024 Subaru Ascent Best Parts for Towing a Trailer with Brakes

I am purchasing a 2024 subaru ascent, the vehicle has nothing for towing. I like the etrailer classis 3 hitch. Now the hard part , brake control. I will be pulling 4000 pounds but would like to be able to plug in either a 4 or 7 pin trailer and I am confused, what do I need? Thanks

Hey Gregory, thanks for reaching out!
I really like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e55ZR as well - I know you'll be happy with it!
When it comes to wiring, a 4-Way is used for basic trailer lighting, but since you'll be towing a trailer with brakes, we need to get you setup with a 7-Way and a brake controller. Here are the parts I recommend for that side of your towing rig:
- T-One Harness # 118790 (basic 4-Way)
- Universal Wiring Upgrade Kit # ETBC7 (upgrades to a 4-Way/7-Way)
- Wiring Bracket # C83DR
- Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR
The wiring parts get you everything you need for a fully-functional 4-Way/7-Way, and then I really like the Tow-Pro Liberty because it takes up virtually no room and can be installed literally anywhere inside your vehicle. We actually installed this on a 2024 Ascent, so I'm linking that video for you to check out.
