What Air Lift Air Bags do I Need for My 2017 Toyota Tacoma with Lift Blocks, and Air Compressor?

Published 06/12/2025

Question:

Need an air lift kit for a 2017 Toyota Tacoma, 4 wheel drive.. Would prefer the Air Lift brand if possible. The Tacoma has a block style lift kit installed on the rear leaf springs. I tried using your online deal but got a message that it was not working correctly. THANKS

Hello again Mike,

Happy to get you into the right Air Lift set-up for your 2017 Toyota Tacoma.

You will need the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # AL49DQ for the airbag kit.

Not all lift kits provide the same amount of lift, so you’ll either need to reach out to the manufacturer of your rear lift blocks to confirm how much they increased the distance between the frame and axle, or you can measure this yourself. The # AL49DQ brackets are designed for a stock distance of 5 1/2", so if your measurement is at least 7 1/2", you’ll need the 2" spacer # AL52420. I’ve attached a measurement guide directly from Air Lift’s website that you can use for reference.

* If you do measure, make sure the truck is unloaded and parked on level ground.

If you're looking for a great air compressor to pair with it, I recommend the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System for Air Helper Springs # AL74000EZ. I really like this system because it comes with both a remote and Bluetooth compatibility, making it super easy to use, don't even need to leave the cab of your truck.

What kind of blocks did you have installed? Do you have a company or part number?

@MikeE I would go ahead and order the spacers, if you end up not needing them just let me know and I will get you taken care of. The 2" lift is kind of a gray area, sometime you need them, sometimes you don't.

@KateF I’m a little confused at this point in time I apologize. I’m 67 and 2 years ago I installed this kit myself, so what you’re saying is I might have to remove the tapered 2” blocks that I installed with the lift kit and install a different set of spacers is that correct. If so does your company offer said spacers, maybe you can supply a link to that product as well.. I’m very active and looking forward to installing your air bags to get my cargo trailer level. Thanks for your help Kate

@MikeE Happy to clarify, Mike. You will not need to remove the 2" blocks that you installed with your lift kit. You’ll want to install the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # AL49DQ, and because of the lift kit on your Tacoma, you may also need to install the Air Lift 2" spacers # AL52420. These spacers help fill the added gap between the axle and the frame that results from your lift. Since a lifted truck increases the frame-to-axle distance beyond what the air springs are designed for at stock height, the spacers ensure the air bags perform properly and aren’t overextended. I attached a video as well where Jeff explains what the spacers are for. If you have any other questions, please ask away. That is what I am here for =)
