Can The Swagman Chinook Bike Rack S64683 Hold A 65 lb E-Bike?

I recently purchased and e-bike which weighs about 65lbs. Can I place this on my Chinook bike rack?

Hello Jeff, thanks for reaching out. No, you cannot put a 65 lb e-bike on the Swagman Chinook Bike Rack # S64683. This rack is not rated for heavy bikes and has a maximum capacity of 45 lbs per bike. You will need a new rack to carry your new E-bike. I am happy to make a recommendation, but I have a few questions for your first.

First, is your trailer hitch a 1-1/4" receiver, or a 2"?

Second, what kind of bike do you have? Does it have fenders, or is it a step-thru frame?

Lastly, how many bikes do you need to carry? Just your e-bike, or do you want to carry two at a time?

@JesseM Two bikes at 45 lbs each is 90 lbs. This rack wouldn’t be able to carry one 65-70 lb bike? Why is that?

@JohnS Yes so the Swagman Chinook Bike Rack # S64683 has a weight capacity of 45 lbs per bike. This means each wheel tray can carry 45 lbs max. It would not be suitable for a 65-70 lb bike so you would need to go with something else for that. For example, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HLY84FR has a capacity of 80 lbs per bike.
