Hello Rick,
You're looking to swap out the surge brakes for a more reliable electric brake setup, great move for improved control and ease of use.
I don’t have access to a specific parts database tied to every trailer model, but based on my research, most Jayco 1406 campers are built on a single 3,500 lb axle (if this is not your axle capacity please let me know). With that in mind, here’s a full setup I recommend:
- (1) set of etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # AKEBRK-35-SA
- (2) of the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3.5K Axles - 10" - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K
- Wire by the foot (so you will need to measure to see how much is needed): Deka Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire - per Foot # 10-2-1
- (1) of the Brightway ICU Trailer Breakaway Kit w/ Charger, LED Tester, and 5 Ah Battery - Side Load # BW94FR
- (1) etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box and RV Style Connector # e99011
If you need butt connectors and tools to get the job done, we have the Hopkins Deluxe Trailer Wiring Installation Kit # HM51020 which comes with more parts than you need, but you can't beat the price.
You will need to swap out your coupler as well, can you please send me some pictures of the Surge Brake Actuator Coupler you currently have on there? That way I can find you the easiest swap.
If you do not have a brake controller please comment your year, make, and model of you vehicle so I can get you a part number.
I attached some review/install videos for you to check out as well, and a great help article about adding electric brakes.
What made you decide to go to electric?
