Question:
Notice there is two models made by curt made for the same rig both with the same specs but designed differently and mounts to different hard points. The other model being #13408. I have a 02 wrangler simply put I dont know alot about hitches and want the better of the two if one is a slight design improvement or utilizes better mounting points etc. Ill even accept a personal opinion ha ha.

Both the Curt hitch part # 13408 and the part # 13430 would work well on your 2002 Jeep Wrangler. Both have the same capacities and have 2 inch openings. The differences are that the # 13408 uses a different attachment method like you noticed and has a square cross tube whereas the # 13430 uses a round tube. Both are equally strong, some just prefer the look of one over the other. I attached pics of both of these hitches installed to let you decide which you like better.
I attached install videos for both hitches for you to check out. Based on customer reviews it would appear that the # 13408 would be a better choice since it has more positive reviews.
