Can 26" Long Leaf Springs Replace 27" Long Leaf Springs

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 03/29/2025

Question:

Hello, Quick question. I have a utility trailer with a single 3,500 lb. axle. I need to replace both springs. They measure 27 inches. I would like to switch them with the slightly higher capacity springs for a 4,000 lb. axle but they are 26 inch. I feel like they would work but it would change the angle of the shackle. Would that change effect anything? Thanks

Hey Daniel, your springs have likely stretched overtime so a 26" long leaf spring like the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles # e22YR.

You will want to make sure that you are measuring your current springs from eye to eye with the axle hanging. If you have any other questio0ns, please feel free to drop a comment and let me know!

Hey Daniel, how did things go with the 26-inch leaf springs for your trailer axle? Were you able to confirm the eye-to-eye measurement with the axle hanging? Your update could make it easier for others replacing stretched springs.
