Can 2.2K Heavier Rated Leaf Springs be Used on a 2022 Grand Design Imagine BHE Trailer

Updated 10/02/2024 | Published 09/25/2024

Question:

I have a 2022 Grand Design Imagine BHE trailer with upgraded More Ride CRE 3000 suspension. I am adding new Disk Breaks and am considering 2.2k spring upgrade. Is the spring upgrade a good idea and how will it impact things?

Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out!

According to my research your 2022 Grand Design Imagine BHE has a GVWR just shy of 7,000 lbs so increasing the leaf spring weight rating by 2.2K will result in a pretty noticeable stiffness and I don't recommend going that route. It's okay to have leaf springs that are rated a little higher, but 2.2K is pretty significant for this weight of trailer.

If you can let me know what the length of your leaf springs are when they don't have weight on them (lift the trailer by the frame for this) then I can make a replacement recommendation out of our linked selection.

I am having issues with chucking on bumpy roads. I have spread the load in the trailer more evenly and toward the center over the wheels instead of adjusting Toung and back weight and it helped some. I am hoping upgraded springs will help the ride also???? I cannot lift the trailer but the springs measure 26" and look to be exactly what was attached in your first reply. 4 leaf, 1.75" wide Can I get an upgraded spring without going to 2.2k. Also, I would like the Dacromet coating and not plastic bushings. We are upgrading the CRE 3000 bronze bushings to a "Never Fail" bushings that do not need grease.

@SteveG We have the Leaf Spring # e48SR rated for a 4K trailer that has the Dacromet finish and 26" spacing, but if that's too much then the Leaf Spring # e77SR might be the better option as it's rated for a 2K axle instead.

Looks like the e48SR is what I have stock on the trailer now but with the Dacromet coating. I am trying to improve the ride with less chucking. This may help if my existing springs are worn or fatigued??? Seems like the e77SR would be worse???

@SteveG If you can verify the weight rating of your axles that would give us the info you're needing. Looking at all of this I'm guessing your trailer has 3.5K axles so using the Leaf Spring # e48SR would be just fine since it's only over the 3.5K rating by 500 lbs.
