Cost-Effective 6K Axle Trailer Tire and Wheel Recommendation with 6 on 5-1/2" Bolt Pattern
Updated 10/28/2025 | Published 03/25/2025 >
Question:
Hi, Im building a home made trailer. Ive got a 6000 lb spring axle already, and need some wheels and tires for it. Im looking at your website, but I dont really know what makes one wheel/tire better than another. I want the trailer rated for 6000 lbs, able to go at least 81 mph, and I dont plan on doing intense off-roading, but want the tires to be capable of traveling on dirt and gravel roads. Hoping for some recommendations under $300. the axles have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. I want something good quality but nothing overkill thats going to break the bank. Thanks.

Hey Brynne, thanks for reaching out!
I really like the Provider ST235/80R16 Trailer Tire with Silver Mod Wheel # TA59VR for a few reasons; the Provider name is a really trusted one, it's a Radial tire designed for on-road use but it still has pretty aggressive tread (good for mild off-road use), and best of all is that it doesn't break the bank.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Brynne, how did the Provider tire and wheel combo work out for your trailer build? Did it give you the balance of highway speed and light off-road traction you were after? Your update could make it easier for others setting up similar trailers.
