When Adjusting the Bunks on an EZ Loader Trailer Do I Want the Bunk Brackets Loose?
Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/15/2025 >
Question:
Good afternoon. I own an EZ LOADER trailer for an 18 Key West 179 FS. I believe the model is 16-18 BT. Could you please give me a advice? When adjusting the bunks, do I leave the swivel part of the bunk brackets a little loose so that bunks can move laterally as the boat is being loaded, or should they be tightened completely to prevent movement? Thank you for any help.

Hey there Bill,
When adjusting the bunks on your EZ Loader trailer, tighten the swivel brackets securely but not excessively. They should allow slight movement to self-adjust as the boat loads, ensuring even contact with the hull. However, they shouldn't be so loose that the bunks shift significantly. A little flexibility helps with proper alignment, but excessive movement can cause instability. After loading the boat, check that it sits evenly without undue pressure points and make adjustments as needed.
When is the next time you will be getting out on the water?

Hey Bill, how did the bunk adjustment on your EZ Loader trailer turn out? Did the slight flexibility in the swivel brackets help the boat sit more evenly on the bunks? Your update could make it easier for others working on similar trailer setups.
