Solution To Prevent My 2022 Jayco Pinnacle From Bottoming Out

Updated 10/21/2025 | Published 06/29/2022

Question:

We just picked up a 2022 Jayco Pinnacle 38 FLGS - it is 44 1/2 feet long and we have a sharp right turn with a steep hill to the right to get to our house. It does have a rear mounted trailer hitch which is welded directly to the frame. Picture attached It also has the safety chain brackets which dip down. Pictures also attached. It seems to be dragging at all 4 points. Both outer edges and the each side of the safety chain bracket. Given that the hitch is welded to the frame I would think that the Hitch mounted skid wheels at the outer most edges closest to the welded brackets would work, but do you also think that a Rollaway hitch protector would be needed? This particular model has no rear bumper so the hitch acts as its protection from the trailer itself bottoming out. Thank you,

Thanks for the pictures!

The Ultra-Fab Hitch Mounted Steel Rollers for RVs w/ 2-1/2" Hitch Tubing # UF48-979017 would work great for your 2022 Jayco Pinnacle 38FLGS, and would eliminate the dragging you're experiencing.

Adding the Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector # RM-050 that you mention is not necessary as the steel rollers will prevent the hitch from bottoming out.

I am about to purchase my first 41’ 5th Wheel. My current 35’ trailer has 5” swivel wheels on the back that have worked well. I am most likely going to purchase these steel rollers for the rear hitch mounted underneath on the back of the 5th wheel. My question… Are two rollers sufficient or should I get 4? Thanks!

@HarryG two of the # UF48-979017 will be sufficient for your 5th wheel.
