Will Lionshead 17-1/2" Wheel LH28FR Work With 1/2" Lug Bolt?

Question:

Will this option work with a 1/2 lug bolt?

Hello Ryan, thanks for reaching out. No, the # LH28FR wheel will not work with 1/2" wheel studs. It should only be used with 9/16" studs. 1/2" studs would leave open space in the lug hole and this would eventually eat up and destroy your wheel studs.

If you studs are 1/2" you will want to stick with a wheel made for 1/2" studs. Any trailer that uses a 17-1/2" 8-lug wheel should absolutely be equipped with 9/16" studs.

What trailer is this going on? What size tires and wheels do you have currently?

Part Number: WST68FR is the exact wheel and tire combo on my camper. 235/85 r16. I have a 2021 forest river rouge armor 383 toy hauler. I was wanting to increase safety factor by going to 17.5 option. I run them on my gooseneck and have had much more longevity and reliability. Thanks

@Ryan If you can find a 17-1/2" wheel for 1/2" studs that could work. I am not aware of anything like that though. Changing out your hubs is a potential solution here. You will also want to keep your fender clearance in mind. Ideally you want 3" between the tire and the fender, and at least 1" between the inside of the tire and the frame of the trailer. Doing a larger tire and wheel would decrease that clearance.

If I find a 17.5 rim would I be better off going with a 215/75r17.5? Would be a inch shorter than my current tire and slightly smaller.

@Ryan I gotcha. In that case yes a 215/75r17.5 would be better since clearance would not be an issue. Here are the 215/75-17.5 tires we offer: - Triangle 215/75R17.5 Heavy-Duty Radial Tire - Load Range H # TR68VR - Westlake 215/75R17.5 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range H # LHWL097 - Provider HD 215/75R17.5 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range H # TTWP15175
