Troubleshooting RV Steps on Motorhome that Do Not Retract with Switch

Updated 03/13/2025 | Published 02/28/2025

Question:

I have a 2021 Jayco Alante Motorhome. The step extends even when the RV Step switch is OFF. Also, the step remained extended when the RVs ignition was ON. Do these symptoms point to a control module replacement? If so, which part number? If not, can you say what is likely the issue? Thank you.

I would say it's a strong possibility it's the module but I would first check the wiring to the module and the switches and see if you see anything obvious that needs to be fixed and go from there. Do you know which steps you have?

Thanks. I have the Kwikee 24" (can pics be added to thread?). They are Lippert, measure 24" across step, and has 2 steps. Also, in the past few days, the "RV Step" switch has begun to work again.

@JimM Pics can't be added to this thread yet which I know is super annoying but it's allegedly coming soon. So the switch is working again? That's good, did it start working after a drive? That makes me think an intermittent connection is to blame. "loose wire".

@JamesonC Yes, the switch seems to be functional again after a 5,000 mile round trip to FL Keys. I will check for loose wires. Thanks.

@JimM Let me know what you find. Hopefully it just magically fixes itself and you never have to worry about it again haha.
